About the Role
We are seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer to take a leadership role in our growing engineering department. This pivotal position will oversee all aspects of mechanical and plumbing design for design-build projects, from concept through permit-ready construction documents. As the technical authority on our projects, you will lead engineering strategy, ensure code compliance, and serve as the primary licensed Professional Engineer (PE) for stamped documents in Washington State.

Key Responsibilities
- Lead in-house engineering proposals and client communications for design-build projects
- Manage and oversee the full lifecycle of mechanical and plumbing design
- Supervise internal engineering teams and external consultants
- Stamp and certify permit-ready construction documents
- Provide code compliance guidance and technical support to sales, operations, and field teams
- Ensure timely delivery of accurate and high-quality design documents
- Implement quality control processes and uphold company design standards
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to talent development within the department
- Promote use of design technology including AutoCAD, Revit, and hybrid 2D/3D workflows
- Maintain deep knowledge of relevant codes:
- International Mechanical Code (IMC)
- Uniform Plumbing Code (UPC)
- International Fuel Gas Code (IFGC)
- Washington State Energy Code (WSEC)
- Facilities Guidelines Institute (FGI) – healthcare facilities
Qualifications
Required:
- Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in Washington State
- Minimum 7–10 years of experience in mechanical and/or plumbing system design
- Expertise in load calculations and mechanical load analysis
- Proficient in AutoCAD 2D and familiar with Revit/3D modeling workflows
- Strong leadership, project management, and communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Teams)
Preferred:
- Prior experience in the design-build industry
- Healthcare facility design experience and knowledge of FGI standards
- Familiarity with energy-efficient and sustainable building practices
