THE POSITION
Purolator is seeking a Senior Manager, AR, Collections & Payment Processing to lead the strategic and operational direction of its national Accounts Receivable (AR), Collections, and Payment Processing functions. Reporting to the Director, Finance Shared Services, this role is accountable for ensuring that AR and Collections operations are executed in accordance with corporate policies, service level agreements (SLAs), and regulatory frameworks.
The Senior Manager will be responsible for optimizing end-to-end AR processes, implementing robust controls, and ensuring high performance across functional teams. This includes driving measurable improvements in collections, cash applications, credit risk management, and overall revenue cycle performance. The role oversees a high-volume portfolio managing over $2 billion in annual revenue and 400,000+ customer accounts, including complex enterprise and national accounts.
Key priorities within the first 6-12 months include:
● Lead the stabilization and optimization of Cash Application processes, including resolution of post-ERP implementation challenges.
● Strengthen Collections performance, focusing on reducing aged receivables and improving key metrics such as Days Sales Outstanding (DSO).
● Enhance cross-functional collaboration with Sales, Customer Service, IT, and Finance to address client payment issues and streamline billing-to-collection processes.
● Develop and implement performance management scorecards and KPIs to drive accountability and operational excellence across teams.
● Lead team alignment and capability building, ensuring clear accountabilities and improved collaboration within and across teams. What you'll work on
● Lead strategic and operational management of AR, Collections, and Payment Processing functions to ensure the achievement of corporate objectives and compliance requirements.
● Develop and implement performance metrics and governance frameworks to monitor AR performance and identify risk areas proactively.
● Oversee credit risk management, collections, cash application, and credit adjustments, ensuring operational efficiency and financial integrity.
● Directly manage a team of three Managers, with overall responsibility for a team of 50-60 professionals, including supervisors and team leads.
● Collaborate with key internal partners including Sales, IT, Finance, and Customer Service to improve processes that impact cash flow and receivables management.
● Oversee vendor relationships to ensure alignment with service agreements and performance expectations.
● Manage customer relationships to resolve payment issues, reduce outstanding receivables, and improve customer satisfaction.
● Ensure adherence to internal controls related to revenue, cash application, credit management, and collections processes.
● Support the organization’s financial planning efforts through cash forecasting and AR analytics.
● Identify and implement process improvement and automation opportunities to drive operational efficiency and cost reductions.
What you bring to the table
Professional Experience and Expertise
● Minimum 5 years of progressive leadership experience managing AR, Collections, and Payment Processing functions in a large, complex organization.
● Proven experience managing teams of significant size, including managing managers and specialized functional teams.
● Expertise in Accounts Receivable strategy, collections operations, credit management, and cash applications.
● Demonstrated success in improving collections performance and optimizing AR processes, including KPI management and dashboard development.
● Experience managing high-volume, complex client accounts and leading interactions with major corporate clients.
● Strong knowledge of ERP systems, with a preference for SAP FI/CO.
● Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, and Visio; ability to develop and analyze complex reports and data models.
● Experience managing third-party vendors and service providers to meet operational and performance standards.
Education and Credentials
● Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, Business, Commerce, or Operations.
● Accounting designation (CPA or equivalent) preferred but not mandatory.
● Strong understanding of accounting principles and financial controls.
