We are seeking an experienced Bridge Engineer to serve as a technical lead on structural transportation projects. This role focuses on the analysis, design, and delivery of bridge and related infrastructure projects, while mentoring junior staff and collaborating across disciplines.
Serve as technical lead for analysis, design, and construction support services for:
Conventional highway, road, trail, and pedestrian bridges
Occasional complex bridge designs
Culverts, temporary structures, retaining walls, and other underground structures
Develop contract drawings and specifications.
Utilize engineering software to draft, design, detail, and modify bridge, culvert, and retaining wall designs in accordance with MDOT standards.
Apply innovative thinking and sound engineering judgment to problem solving.
Evaluate, select, and apply standard engineering methodologies, theories, and procedures.
Review designs for compliance with MDOT Bridge Design Manual, Bridge Design Guides, AASHTO LFD and LRFD specifications.
Clarify and resolve technical issues.
Compile plan quantities.
Conduct bridge load ratings for various bridge types and culverts.
Assist with report writing, technical memorandums, and client presentations as needed.
Support Project Managers in cost estimate preparation when requested.
Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams throughout the design process.
Mentor staff, review technical work, and delegate design tasks.
Maintain proactive communication with internal team members and other disciplines.
Prepare plans, specifications, and estimates using federal, state, and local standards and guidelines.
Participate in team meetings, staff meetings, and planning sessions.
Engage in training and professional development activities.
Complete administrative tasks including timesheets, expense reports, and correspondence.
Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering with an emphasis in Structural Engineering from an accredited university (required).
Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) (required).
Minimum 8 years of experience in structural transportation projects including bridges, culverts, and retaining walls (required).
Experience preparing MDOT, other DOT, and Local Agency bridge design packages (required).
Familiarity with structural analysis and design of both conventional and complex bridges (required).
Experience with modeling and design software such as:
MicroStation / ORD / OBM / OBD
AutoCAD / Civil 3D
AASHTOWare Bridge Rating
Strong knowledge of AASHTO and DOT design standards (preferred).
Excellent technical writing and communication skills (required).
