Description: An Epic Beaker project manager oversees the planning, implementation, and optimization of the Epic Beaker laboratory information system across a health system, coordinating IT, lab, and clinical stakeholders while managing scope, timelines, and risks. The role blends classic project management (charter, schedule, budget, risks) with Beaker- and lab-specific workflow, compliance, and integration expertise.
Responsibilities/skills:
Lead end‑to‑end Epic Beaker implementations (CP and/or AP) including planning, build coordination, testing, cutover, go‑live, and stabilization across one or multiple sites.
Develop and maintain project charter, detailed project plans, schedules, status reports, change requests, and resource plans within the PMO framework.
Manage scope, budget, timeline, issues, and risks; drive mitigation plans and escalate appropriately to executive sponsors when needed. Stakeholder leadership
Serve as primary point of contact between lab leadership, clinical stakeholders, IT teams, Epic analysts, and external vendors/consultants.
Plan and facilitate governance and working sessions (steering committees, design, build, testing, and cutover meetings), ensuring decisions, dependencies, and actions are documented and tracked.
Maintain strong customer service orientation, managing expectations and communicating progress, risks, and outcomes to technical and non‑technical audiences.
Coordinate Beaker CP/AP (unclear about AP) build, orders/results configuration, and interfaces with ancillary systems (e.g., instruments, billing, EMR modules, Data Innovations, SoftLab, other LIS).
Oversee data migration from legacy LIS, end‑to‑end testing (unit, integrated, UAT), and validation of laboratory workflows and regulatory requirements (CLIA, CAP, HIPAA, Joint Commission).
Ensure workflow integration with broader Epic ecosystem and interoperability standards such as HL7 and FHIR where applicable.
Develop and execute change management strategies, including communication plans, readiness assessments, and go‑live support structures.
Coordinate training with Epic trainers, super users, and lab leaders; ensure end‑user issues and enhancement requests are captured and prioritized post‑go‑live.
Drive post‑implementation optimization initiatives, leveraging lessons learned from prior Beaker projects to improve performance and user satisfaction.
Qualifications:
3–7+ years of healthcare IT project management, with direct Epic implementation experience and at least one to two full‑cycle Epic or Beaker projects.
Bachelor’s in healthcare, IT, business, or related field; Epic certification and PMP or similar PM credential strongly preferred.
Strong understanding of lab operations and Beaker workflows, plus proficiency with PM tools such as Microsoft Project, Smartsheet, or Jira, and excellent communication and leadership skills.
