Design Engineer – Automated Assembly Systems
Position Overview
We are seeking a highly skilled Design Engineer to support the development of complex automated assembly systems. This role is focused on hands-on mechanical design execution, owning equipment designs from concept through detailed development. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced project environment, works independently with minimal oversight, and collaborates closely with Project Engineers during structured design reviews.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform complex mechanical design for custom automated assembly equipment using SolidWorks and Windchill
- Independently evaluate, select, and apply standard and advanced engineering principles to solve complex design challenges
- Adapt or modify established design methods for non-routine or highly technical assignments
- Own assigned equipment designs from initial layouts through detailed component and assembly development
- Participate in formal design reviews with Project Engineers; incorporate feedback and respond constructively to critique
- Ensure designs meet requirements for accuracy, manufacturability, safety, and overall system performance
- Collaborate cross-functionally with mechanical, controls, and systems teams to support full system integration
- Apply strong technical judgment and design rigor without assuming project management or people leadership responsibilities
Qualifications
- 6+ years of experience designing automated assembly or custom automation systems
- Advanced proficiency in SolidWorks (required); experience with Windchill preferred
- Strong understanding of mechanical engineering principles, automation concepts, component selection, and system-level design
- Proven ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment with minimal direction
- Demonstrated success delivering accurate, complete mechanical designs under tight timelines
