A well-established manufacturing organization specializing in sheet metal stamping and forming is seeking an experienced Engineering CAD Designer to support tooling, product development, and manufacturing operations. This role collaborates closely with Engineering, Product Development, Sales, and Manufacturing teams to deliver high-quality design solutions for new and existing products.
The Engineering CAD Designer will produce 2D and 3D component and assembly drawings, develop solid models for prototyping and tooling, and ensure compliance with internal standards and customer requirements. This position also provides technical support to production and tooling teams.
Design tools and dies accurately and efficiently in accordance with engineering standards and project timelines
Develop and maintain detailed 2D and 3D CAD drawings for manufacturing and tooling
Create and manage bills of materials (BOMs), including spare tooling and wear components
Maintain organized and up-to-date CAD files and documentation
Collaborate with tool room personnel to troubleshoot tooling issues and revise designs as needed
Participate in design reviews to assess customer requirements, production constraints, and schedules
Prepare drawings and documentation for internal manufacturing teams and external customers
Support conceptual, preliminary, and detailed design phases in collaboration with Engineering
Develop preliminary die concepts, strip layouts, and detailed tooling designs
Ensure designs align with quoted project assumptions, machine capabilities, and customer specifications
Select standard components and ensure materials and parts are specified for timely procurement
Track and communicate project progress throughout the build and prototype phases
Assist with training and mentoring personnel involved in tooling, design, or prototyping
Design prototype blanks and fixtures as required
Adhere to company quality systems, environmental standards, and customer quality requirements
Education & Experience
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering preferred
Associate degree in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, CAD Design, or equivalent combination of education and experience required
Technical Skills
Formal training and practical experience in tool and die design or engineering
Extensive experience with CAD software, including Siemens NX and SolidWorks
Strong 3D modeling capabilities
Ability to read and interpret blueprints, specifications, and technical documentation
Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T)
Proficiency with Windows-based systems and Microsoft Office applications
