Job Description

One Tech Engineering is looking for a Survey Technician for a position located in Duluth, Minnesota. The Survey Technician will support the company’s field surveying marina operations. 

The candidate must be a US Citizen or a green card holder, the position is not eligible for sponsorship. The candidate should have a high school diploma and preferably 1-2 years of related marina or field surveying experience. 

Survey Technician Responsibilities:
  • Perform and oversee surveying tasks, including topographic, bathymetric, and as-built surveys.
  • Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot advanced survey equipment such as GNSS/GPS, robotic total stations, UAVs, LiDAR, and hydrographic survey equipment such as echosounders, side scans, magnetometers, and ROVs.
  • Establish survey control networks and verify field measurements for quality assurance.
  • Review field notes, data sets, and field procedures to ensure consistency and accuracy.
  • Maintain detailed project documentation, progress reports, and field records.
  • Operate boats, barges, and other watercraft during survey missions
  • Assist with launching, docking, and securing vessels
  • Perform basic maintenance checks before and after fieldwork
  • Setup and operate survey instruments
  • Assist with field measurements:  shoreline mapping, and bathymetric surveys
  • Assist with rigging, mounting, and calibrating sensors on boats or survey platforms
  • Follow all boat safety protocols
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations during field operations
  • Work closely with surveyors, engineers, environmental scientists, and boat operators
Requirements for the Survey Technician:
  • High School Diploma
  • Associate or Bachelor’s degree in surveying, Engineering Technology, Physics, Civil Engineering, or a related field, a plus
  • Boating safety certifications, nice to have
  • Strong understanding of survey principles, mapping standards, and construction methods.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; ability to travel to field sites as needed
  • Excellent communication skills.
