Job Description

One Tech Engineering is searching for a Substation Field Technician whose home base can be located in the lower 48. This position will travel from project to project supporting substation work. The Substation Field Technician will be responsible for all mechanical aspects of projects, including demo of old equipment, layout, rigging/setting of new equipment, and welding of aluminum conductors. 

The candidate must be a US Citizen or a green card holder, the position is not eligible for sponsorship. The candidate should have 3+ years’ experience welding aluminum components.


Substation Field Technician Responsibilities:

  • Ability to work independently with minimal to no supervision. 
  • Work effectively alongside the assigned team or crafts as required. 
  • Communicate effectively with verbal and/or written communication. 
  • Interpret construction, welding, and electrical drawings, and take or read measurements according to the plan layout and procedures. 
  • Determine appropriate welding equipment or method based on the requirements of the job. 
  • Set up components for welding according to detailed specifications. 
  • Rig, lift, set, align, and fit equipment in position according to drawings and specifications. 
  • Weld Aluminum components in various positions (vertical, horizontal, or overhead, 6G test required).
  • Maintain equipment in a working condition and inspect daily for damage or safety concerns.
  • Inspect, inventory, and organize parts and components for installation.
  • Perform maintenance on and Inspection of existing, aging equipment for defects, damage, and deterioration.
  • Operate electrical test equipment, including Hi-Pot, Ductor, and Megger.
  • Fill out daily timesheets and job reports as needed.
  • Operate company vehicles safely and within company policy.
  • Assume other duties as assigned.

Requirements of the Substation Field Technician:

  • 3+ years’ experience welding aluminum components.
  • 3+ years’ experience using a variety of welding equipment and procedures (TIG and MIG).
  • Familiar with medium and high voltage electrical equipment.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents and drawings.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and proper use of protective equipment, working at heights, etc.
  • Substation construction or electrical bus installation is preferred.
  • Experience operating equipment, including forklift, manlift, etc.
    Up to 75% of travel is required throughout the continental USA.
  • Valid and current driver’s license.
