Job Description

Our client is an energy technology company commercializing an innovative natural gas liquids (NGL) recovery solution that conditions raw field gas for use in reciprocating gas engines supporting compression, gas lift, and oilfield electrification. This technology enables operators to increase revenues while improving equipment reliability, efficiency, and emissions performance. They are seeking a highly skilled Reliability Engineer to add to their team in Houston, TX.

Reliability Engineer Benefits:

  • Direct hire, full time
  • Competitive compensation package
  • Comprehensive benefits (medical, dental, vision, 401k, PTO)
  • Exposure to cutting-edge gas processing and PSA technology
  • High visibility role working cross-functionally with engineering and operations teams
  • Opportunity for career growth as the product scales commercially

Reliability Engineer Responsibilities / Job Duties:

  • Leads reliability strategy for PSA systems, including adsorber vessels, switching valves, beds, instrumentation, and station interfaces
  • Maximizes equipment uptime and performance through proactive reliability engineering and failure prevention
  • Performs root cause failure analysis (RCFA) using FMEA, 5-Why, and fault-tree analysis methodologies
  • Monitors PSA cycle performance, pressure profiles, differential pressure trends, and adsorption/desorption efficiency to identify degradation or failure modes
  • Optimizes PSA cycle timing, valve sequencing, and control logic to improve recovery, purity, and throughput
  • Analyzes reliability metrics including MTBF, MTTR, and failure rates to develop predictive and prescriptive maintenance strategies
  • Develops and implements equipment health monitoring programs for valves, actuators, compressors, feed gas systems, and critical instrumentation
  • Uses pressure signature analysis, valve diagnostics, and SCADA data to predict equipment failures
  • Tracks adsorbent bed condition including attrition, moisture contamination, channeling, and pressure drop, and recommends replacement intervals
  • Creates preventive and predictive maintenance plans for PSA systems and critical process equipment
  • Provides technical support for planned shutdowns, adsorbent bed changeouts, vessel inspections, and valve overhauls
  • Writes and maintains maintenance procedures and best practices for startup, shutdown, and upset recovery
  • Troubleshoots process issues including breakthrough events, purity excursions, cycle instability, valve leakage, and bed saturation
  • Works closely with operations to adjust process parameters and ensure compliance with product specifications
  • Evaluates adsorbent media performance and recommends upgrades or configuration changes
  • Develops dashboards and KPI tracking tools for recovery efficiency, downtime, and cycle deviation alarms
  • Prepares monthly reliability reports and leads cross-functional reliability review meetings
  • Supports equipment design, modifications, and upgrades related to PSA systems, valves, controls, and instrumentation
  • Reviews P&IDs, control logic, simulations, and vendor documentation for reliability implications
  • Collaborates with operations, HSE, and OEM suppliers to implement long-term reliability improvements

Reliability Engineer Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Chemical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Process Engineering, or a related technical discipline
  • 3–8+ years of experience supporting PSA systems, gas separation technologies, or natural gas processing equipment
  • Hands-on experience with reliability engineering tools including FMEA, RCFA, and Weibull analysis
  • Proven experience leading root cause analyses and implementing corrective actions
  • Strong working knowledge of compressors, valves, rotating equipment, vessels, and process instrumentation
  • Experience with industrial control systems (PLC, DCS, SCADA)

Reliability Engineer Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience with natural gas upgrading, NGL plants, RNG/biogas upgrading, or hydrogen PSA systems
  • Understanding of adsorption kinetics, PSA cycle design, and valve sequencing logic
  • Certifications such as CMRP, CRE, or Six Sigma
  • Familiarity with Aspen Adsorption, UniSim, or similar simulation tools
  • Knowledge of regulatory and environmental requirements for gas processing facilities
