Job Description

Our client specializes in structural steel erection and heavy industrial construction. Their work requires a strong commitment to safety, risk mitigation, and field compliance. The Safety Coordinator plays a critical role in ensuring our crews work safely, efficiently, and in full compliance with company standards and regulatory requirements.

Position Summary

The Safety Coordinator supports Postel Erection Group’s safety program by conducting jobsite inspections, training field personnel, monitoring compliance, and promoting a strong, proactive safety culture. This role works closely with field supervisors, ironworkers, and project managers to identify hazards, implement corrective actions, and ensure all work is performed safely and in accordance with OSHA, company policies, and project-specific requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Conduct regular jobsite safety inspections on steel erection and construction projects.
  • Identify hazards related to working at heights, rigging, crane operations, welding, and equipment use.
  • Ensure compliance with OSHA 1926 Subpart R (Steel Erection), fall protection standards, and all applicable regulations.
  • Lead incident investigations, root cause analyses, and corrective action follow-up.
  • Deliver safety training, toolbox talks, and new-hire orientations for field crews.
  • Validate proper use of PPE and verify that fall protection, rigging equipment, and tools meet requirements.
  • Assist in maintaining site-specific safety plans, JHAs/JSAs, and daily safety documentation.
  • Support and enforce Postel Erection Group’s safety policies and procedures.
  • Communicate safety expectations clearly to foremen, ironworkers, and subcontractors.
  • Maintain safety logs, inspection records, training documentation, and compliance reports.
  • Participate in pre-job planning meetings to identify project risks and required controls.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma required; safety certification or related education preferred.
  • 1–3 years of experience in construction or industrial safety (steel erection experience highly preferred).
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA regulations, particularly those related to steel erection, cranes, rigging, and fall protection.
  • Ability to identify jobsite hazards and implement corrective actions effectively.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills; able to influence and train field personnel.
  • Proficient with Microsoft Office and safety reporting tools/software.
  • Certifications such as OSHA 30, First Aid/CPR, Fall Protection Competent Person, or Rigging Competent Person are a plus.
