Job Description

The Controller will oversee all accounting functions, focusing on revenue accounting, Joint Interest Billing (JIB), general accounting, and financial reporting. This role requires a strategic leader with extensive experience in the E&P sector who can ensure the integrity of financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and implementation of best practices in accounting.

Key Responsibilities:

• Revenue Accounting: Oversee accurate revenue accounting recording and reporting, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations.
• Joint Interest Billing (JIB): Manage the JIB process, ensuring accurate and timely billing and cost recovery from joint venture partners.
• General Accounting: Supervise all general accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance.
• Financial Reporting: Ensure the preparation and accuracy of financial statements in accordance with GAAP requirements.
• Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and standards.
• Internal Controls: Develop and maintain robust internal control systems to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
• Budgeting & Forecasting: Lead the budgeting and forecasting processes, providing strategic insights and recommendations to senior management.
• Audit Management: Coordinate with external auditors and manage the annual audit process.
• Team Leadership: Lead and mentor the accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
• Outsourcing Relationship: Manage the relationship with the company’s outsourcing partner that focuses on daily accounting transactions.
• Strategic Planning: Collaborate with the executive team to develop and implement financial strategies that support the company’s growth and operational goals.
• Risk Management: Identify and mitigate financial risks, ensuring the company’s financial stability and integrity.

Qualifications:

• Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification required.
• Experience: Minimum of 15 years of accounting experience, with at least 7 years in a senior leadership role within the E&P industry.
• Skills: Strong knowledge of GAAP, revenue accounting, JIB, and financial regulations. Excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
• Software Proficiency: Experience with accounting software and ERP systems commonly used in the E&P sector. Experience with Quorum Software is a big plus.
