Job Description
Our client is a Private Equity firm in downtown Houston, focusing on growth and turnaround capital investments in the energy sector.The Controller will oversee all accounting functions, focusing on revenue accounting, Joint Interest Billing (JIB), general accounting, and financial reporting. This role requires a strategic leader with extensive experience in the E&P sector who can ensure the integrity of financial reporting, compliance with regulatory requirements, and implementation of best practices in accounting.
Key Responsibilities:
- Revenue Accounting: Oversee accurate revenue accounting recording and reporting, ensuring compliance with relevant accounting standards and regulations.
- Joint Interest Billing (JIB): Manage the JIB process, ensuring accurate and timely billing and cost recovery from joint venture partners.
- General Accounting: Supervise all general accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger maintenance.
- Financial Reporting: Ensure the preparation and accuracy of financial statements in accordance with GAAP requirements.
- Regulatory Compliance: Ensure compliance with all relevant financial regulations and standards.
- Internal Controls: Develop and maintain robust internal control systems to safeguard company assets and ensure accurate financial reporting.
- Budgeting & Forecasting: Lead the budgeting and forecasting processes, providing strategic insights and recommendations to senior management.
- Audit Management: Coordinate with external auditors and manage the annual audit process.
- Team Leadership: Lead and mentor the accounting team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement and professional development.
- Outsourcing Relationship: Manage the relationship with the company’s outsourcing partner that focuses on daily accounting transactions.
- Strategic Planning: Collaborate with the executive team to develop and implement financial strategies that support the company’s growth and operational goals.
- Risk Management: Identify and mitigate financial risks, ensuring the company’s financial stability and integrity.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting, Finance, or a related field; CPA or equivalent certification required.
- Experience: Minimum of 15 years of accounting experience, with at least 7 years in a senior leadership role within the E&P industry.
- Skills: Strong knowledge of GAAP, revenue accounting, JIB, and financial regulations. Excellent leadership, communication, and analytical skills.
- Software Proficiency: Experience with accounting software and ERP systems commonly used in the E&P sector. Experience with Quorum Software is a big plus.
