SAP S/4HANA EWM Functional & Production Operations Consultants (Hybrid Delivery) – Remote (U.S. Citizens Only)

Overview

Our client is currently delivering a multi-year SAP S/4HANA transformation for one of the world’s largest Aerospace & Defense organizations. At present we are seeking consultants who can operate across both:

• Solution Design & Build (pre-go-live)

• Production Operations & Stabilization (post-go-live)

This role is ideal for experienced SAP EWM professionals who can define functional solutions while also ensuring operational continuity in live environments

Key Responsibilities

1. Functional Design & Build (Project Phase)

• Develop Functional Design Specifications (FDS) for SAP EWM in S/4HANA
• Lead workshops, gap analysis, and solution design sessions
• Support configuration, testing (SIT/UAT), and deployment readiness
• Provide expertise in S/4HANA Embedded EWM, including migration from decentralized/legacy EWM

  Design and configure advanced EWM capabilities, including:

  Core Warehouse Structure & Master Data

  • Warehouse structure definition (warehouse numbers, storage types, sections, bins)

  • Activity areas, work centers, and resource management setup

  • Integration with Business Partner, Material Master, and Batch Management

  Inbound Processing

  • Advanced Shipping Notification (ASN) processing

  • Inbound delivery processing and decentralized vs embedded integration models

  • Putaway strategies (fixed bin, next empty bin, bulk, etc.)

  • Quality inspection integration (QM) and exception handling

  Outbound Processing

  • Outbound delivery processing and wave management

  • Picking strategies (FIFO, LIFO, batch determination, zone picking)

  • Packing, staging, and shipping execution

  • Transportation unit (TU) and yard integration (where applicable)

  Production Integration (EWM–PP Integration)

  • Production supply processes:

    • Staging (pick parts, release order parts, crate parts)

    • Kanban and JIT/JIS scenarios (where applicable)

  • Consumption posting and backflush integration

  • Handling of complex Engineer-to-Order (ETO) production scenarios

  • Integration with MES or shop floor systems (if applicable)

  Internal Warehouse Processes

  • Replenishment strategies (planned, order-related, automatic)

  • Stock transfers and internal movements

  • Physical inventory processes (cycle counting, ad hoc PI)

  • Exception handling and warehouse monitor usage

  Advanced EWM Capabilities

  • Labor Management (LM) and engineered labor standards (preferred)

  • Slotting and rearrangement

  • Handling Unit (HU) management and nested HU scenarios

  • Serial number management and batch traceability (critical in A&D environments)

  • Yard Management (basic/advanced, if in scope)

  Cross-Functional Integration

  • Tight integration with:

    • Materials Management (MM) – procurement and goods receipt

    • Production Planning (PP) – order execution and staging

    • Sales & Distribution (SD) – outbound delivery and shipping

    • Finance (FI/CO) – inventory valuation and movement postings

  • Ensure end-to-end process integrity across warehouse, manufacturing, and supply chain execution

  Testing & Deployment

  • Support configuration, unit testing, SIT, and UAT cycles

  • Define and execute end-to-end integration test scenarios

  • Prepare for deployment including cutover planning and data validation

2. Production Operations & Delivery (Run Phase)

• Support hypercare and post-go-live stabilization

• Monitor and resolve production issues across EWM and integrated processes

• Troubleshoot:

  • Warehouse execution issues (inbound/outbound/internal movements)

  • Production supply and staging issues

  • Integration failures (IDocs, queues, APIs)

• Perform root cause analysis and implement sustainable fixes

• Support transport management and controlled releases into production

• Maintain runbooks, SOPs, and operational documentation

• Drive continuous improvement based on production insights

Required Qualifications

• 10+ years of SAP SCM experience, with deep specialization in SAP EWM

• Proven experience across both implementation and production support environments

• Strong expertise in:

  • Inbound/outbound warehouse processes

  • EWM–PP integration (production supply, staging, consumption)

• Hands-on experience with S/4HANA Embedded EWM

• Experience creating Functional Design Specifications (FDS)

• Strong understanding of cross-functional integration (MM, PP, SD, FI)

• Experience in Engineer-to-Order (ETO) or complex manufacturing environments

• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and resolve production issues

• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience in Aerospace & Defense (A&D) or similarly regulated industries

• Familiarity with ITAR-controlled environments

• Prior experience in ECC to S/4HANA transformation programs

• Experience transitioning from decentralized EWM to embedded EWM

• Exposure to large-scale, multi-release SAP programs

• Experience with monitoring and integration tools (queues, IDocs, job scheduling)
