Our client—a global leader in responsible coal production—is seeking an experienced and visionary Vice President – Technical Services to lead their multidisciplinary technical teams in Colombia. This senior role is pivotal in advancing innovation, operational excellence, and environmental performance across one of the world’s most prominent open-pit coal operations.
About the Role
Reporting to the Vice President of Mining Operations, you’ll oversee engineering, environmental compliance, permitting, and technical development. You’ll also be responsible for aligning strategy and execution across departments, helping ensure the operation’s long-term sustainability and regulatory integrity.
Key Responsibilities
Lead engineering, planning, and forecasting activities across the mine site.
Advance drone, digital survey, and data-integrated mine planning technologies.
Ensure compliance with Colombian regulations and drive OHSAS 45001 / ISO 14001 programs.
Lead biodiversity, carbon neutrality, and environmental restoration programs.
Oversee permitting and technical studies in collaboration with local and national authorities.
Operate a modern training facility, delivering workforce development at scale.
Cultivate a collaborative, high-accountability leadership culture within the team and across departments.
Strategic Projects You Might Lead
Designing intelligent mine planning systems for increased precision and efficiency.
Expanding simulation-based training to upskill operations staff.
Partnering with NGOs and regulators on biodiversity and conservation initiatives.
Rolling out carbon neutrality roadmaps with real, measurable outcomes.
What You Bring
A degree in Mining, Civil, or Environmental Engineering (or related discipline).
15+ years of leadership experience in mine planning and environmental performance.
Deep knowledge of Latin American regulatory environments and stakeholder engagement.
Proven success leading cross-functional technical teams on complex projects.
Spanish language skills—or a strong willingness to learn.
Rotation, Travel, and Support
Rotation: 5 days on/Mon-Fri (Colombia) /2 days off
Travel: Private company flights to/from AL/FL .
Housing: Food and accommodations provided on-site.
Relocation: Support offered for relocation to Birmingham, or fly-in/fly-out flexibility.
