Mining Engineer

Our client, a leader in engineering and technical services supporting the largest anthracite mining company in the United States, is seeking a skilled Mining Engineer to join their team. Job Purpose

The Mining Engineer will work closely with the site management team, reporting directly to the Principal Engineer. This role involves providing technical advice and guidance for all phases of assigned engineering projects, ensuring they are completed on time and within budget. The successful candidate will contribute to the financial success of operations through careful planning and innovative solutions that enhance productivity and sustainability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Mining Plan Development: Create mining plans based on geological data to support both short and long-term planning and production goals.
  • Engineering Project Management: Review, investigate, and provide recommendations for assigned engineering projects, ensuring their successful execution.
  • Technical Studies: Participate in engineering studies to determine optimal mining methods, equipment selection, mine site facilities, and manpower requirements.
  • Ore Reserve Estimation: Prepare detailed ore reserve estimates to support strategic planning and resource management.
  • Pit and Reserve Optimization: Design and optimize pits and reserves to minimize stripping ratios and maximize profitability.
  • Design Management: Develop and manage designs for mines, waste dumps, and haul roads, ensuring operational efficiency and environmental protection.
  • Problem-Solving & Innovation: Recommend actions to eliminate production issues, enhance safety, and improve operational efficiency while controlling costs.
  • Reporting: Provide technical reports and presentations to stakeholders, effectively communicating project progress and outcomes.

Potential Projects You May Work On

  • Developing and implementing a new mine design to improve resource extraction efficiency.
  • Conducting studies to determine the most effective mining methods for a new deposit.
  • Designing and optimizing haul roads and waste dumps to reduce environmental impact and operational costs.
  • Leading the adoption of advanced modeling software to enhance mine planning accuracy.
  • Working on innovative projects to improve safety standards across mining operations.

Required Skills, Education, and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Mining or Geological Engineering.
  • 5+ years of experience in mining engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles and practices.
  • Proven ability to manage large and complex engineering projects.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to draw valid conclusions from complex data.
  • Ability to implement new methods and techniques for operational improvements.
  • Strong awareness of occupational hazards and safety precautions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with computerized modeling software.
  • At least one year of experience using Carlson Software.
  • Experience in mine planning.
  • Advanced degree or Professional Engineering (PE) Certification preferred.
