Vice President, Reinsurance Director

This executive-level role is pivotal in shaping the organization’s financial resilience. You will be responsible for architecting and overseeing sophisticated reinsurance frameworks while cultivating high-level partnerships with global reinsurers, brokers, and senior portfolio executives. This position offers a dynamic environment where your expertise directly influences the firm's growth trajectory and market stability.

Locations: Toronto, ON or Montreal, QC (Hybrid - 4 days per week in-person/market-facing).

Key Responsibilities

In this role, you will report to the Chief Underwriting Officer and work in tandem with global divisions to lead the following:

• Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute comprehensive treaty reinsurance strategies that align with aggressive corporate growth objectives and portfolio optimization.

• Stakeholder Synergy: Act as a critical business partner to the Technical and Actuarial leadership teams, ensuring that reinsurance placements are integrated with broader business needs.

• Portfolio Management: Support premium planning, analysis, and the rigorous oversight of treaty contract compliance.

• Operational Excellence: Manage data integrity for internal and external pricing, validate exposure information, and oversee the design of coverage scope and contract language.

• Negotiation & Governance: Lead negotiations for terms and conditions with approved partners, finalize complex wordings, and ensure all activities adhere to strict internal risk policies and regulatory standards.

• Compliance: Maintain total alignment with industry supervisory expectations and internal governance protocols.

Qualifications & Experience

The ideal candidate is a technical expert with a strategic mindset and the ability to navigate complex organizational structures.

Required:

• Experience: A minimum of 10 years of progressive experience within reinsurance underwriting or brokerage.

• Education: A Bachelor’s degree, with a strong preference for Finance, Economics, or a related field.

• Regulatory Knowledge: Deep familiarity with OSFI supervisory expectations and sound reinsurance practices.

• Communication: Exceptional verbal and written skills, with the presence and confidence to engage and influence Senior Executive leadership.

• Strategic Mindset: Proven ability to think long-term while maintaining a sharp focus on technical details and contract intricacies.

Preferred:

• Advanced Education: MBA or relevant post-graduate credentials.

• Technical Skills: Advanced analytical capabilities and a mastery of reinsurance contract structures.

• Linguistic Skills: Bilingualism in English and French is considered a significant asset.

• Influence: Strong track record of successful negotiation and business partnership development.
