Leap Recruitment Partners is excited to represent a premier, 100% Canadian-owned engineering consulting firm in their search for a Senior Power Studies Engineer. With a history spanning nearly a century, our client is a cornerstone of the Western Canadian engineering landscape, specializing in high-voltage infrastructure and utility interconnections.
In this senior-level capacity, you will apply your deep expertise in electrical system modeling to support utility-scale interconnections, renewable energy initiatives, and large industrial facilities. You will lead critical technical studies, ensure regulatory compliance, and serve as a mentor to a multidisciplinary team of engineers and EITs. This role is designed for a technical authority who thrives on navigating complex power system challenges and providing solutions-focused engineering excellence.
Power System Analysis: Lead the execution of comprehensive studies, including load flow, short-circuit, arc flash, grounding, and protection coordination (TCCs).
Advanced Modeling: Utilize industry-standard tools such as ETAP, CYME, and PSCAD to model complex electrical systems.
Regulatory & Interconnection Support: Facilitate interconnection applications and regulatory filings for utility and industrial projects.
Technical Documentation: Prepare and review detailed engineering reports, study documentation, and validated relay settings for client and utility approval.
Collaborative Integration: Partner with substation, transmission, and distribution teams to ensure seamless project delivery.
Compliance & Standards: Maintain strict adherence to CSA, IEEE, and Canadian Electrical Code requirements, as well as provincial Professional Practice Management Plans.
Mentorship & Representation: Guide junior staff in technical reporting and represent the firm in high-level client meetings and regulatory discussions.
Academic Background: A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering from an accredited Canadian institution.
Professional Licensure: Current registration (or immediate eligibility) as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) with APEGA and/or EGBC.
Professional Experience: At least 10 years of experience in electrical engineering consulting with a heavy focus on power system studies.
Technical Mastery: Proven proficiency in ETAP, CYME, and PSCAD, alongside a strong understanding of protection coordination, AC interference, harmonics, and voltage transients.
Leadership Skills: Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and mentor multidisciplinary teams.
Our client fosters a supportive, collaborative environment where employee development and high-quality service are prioritized.
Location Options: Flexible opportunities in Canmore, AB, Langley, BC, or Calgary, AB.
Flexible Schedule: A standard 40-hour work week with flexible daily hours and occasional work-from-home options.
Comprehensive Compensation: Access to a full benefits package, Health Spending Account (HSA), Group RSP (GRSP), and a $1,000 Active Living (fitness) benefit.
