Leap Recruitment Partners is proud to represent a premier, 100% Canadian-owned engineering consulting firm in their search for a Senior Substation Protection & Control (P&C) Engineer. With nearly a century of industry experience, our client is a leader in delivering high-voltage solutions for utilities and large-scale industrial operations throughout Western Canada.
In this vital leadership capacity, you will spearhead the design, implementation, and commissioning of P&C systems for high-voltage substations. You will act as a technical authority, ensuring system reliability and safety while guiding a multidisciplinary team of engineers and EITs. This role is designed for a technical expert who thrives on complex power system challenges and enjoys fostering the growth of developing engineering professionals.
Engineering Leadership: Lead a diverse team through the full project lifecycle, ensuring cohesive designs that integrate civil, structural, and electrical disciplines.
P&C Design & Analysis: Develop and review comprehensive protection and control schemes, including relay settings, coordination, and advanced power system studies such as load flow, arc flash, and short circuit analysis.
Technical Specifications: Author detailed technical requirements for critical equipment including transformers, breakers, relays, and control panels.
Documentation Excellence: Produce and verify intricate wiring diagrams, schematics, station layouts, and comprehensive engineering reports for stakeholders.
Field Oversight: Formulate energization and commissioning strategies and provide expert on-site technical supervision during construction and testing phases.
Strategic Engagement: Serve as the primary technical point of contact for clients, utility providers, and regulatory bodies to ensure project compliance and alignment.
Academic & Professional Status: Hold a Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering and a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) designation with APEGA and/or EGBC.
Proven Expertise: A minimum of 5 years of experience specifically focused on substation P&C systems and design.
Standards Mastery: Strong working knowledge of IEEE, CSA, and other relevant Canadian and international engineering standards.
Leadership Ability: Demonstrated experience in mentoring junior staff and managing multidisciplinary project teams.
Operational Skills: Excellent analytical problem-solving skills and the ability to manage competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
