Leap Recruitment Partners is pleased to represent a premier, 100% Canadian-owned engineering consulting firm in their search for a Senior Substation Layout Engineer. Our client is a long-standing industry leader with nearly a century of experience delivering specialized high-voltage electrical solutions across Western Canada.
In this senior-level leadership position, you will serve as a technical cornerstone for the design and execution of high-voltage substation projects. You will guide a multidisciplinary team of professionals to deliver reliable, safe, and efficient infrastructure for major industrial operations and utility providers. This role is ideal for a proactive engineer who balances technical mastery with a commitment to mentoring the next generation of engineering talent.
Design Leadership: Direct the conceptual and detailed development of substation layouts and equipment specifications.
Integrated Collaboration: Coordinate across civil, structural, and protection teams to ensure optimized and cohesive designs.
Technical Studies: Execute comprehensive power system analyses, including short circuit, load flow, arc flash, and protection coordination studies.
Project Documentation: Oversee the creation of technical reports, schematics, and detailed engineering drawings.
Operational Oversight: Develop and review plans for substation energization and commissioning while providing on-site inspection support during construction phases.
Stakeholder Engagement: Act as a primary technical liaison for clients, regulatory agencies, and utilities to ensure project alignment and resolve complex inquiries.
Quality & Mentorship: Maintain technical accuracy across the team and foster a high standard of excellence through the active mentorship of EITs and junior staff.
Education & Licensure: A Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or a related field) is required. Candidates must hold a P.Eng. designation or be eligible for immediate registration with APEGA or EGBC.
Experience: At least 5 years of dedicated experience in power system engineering and substation design.
Technical Knowledge: Deep familiarity with Canadian Electrical Code, CSA, and IEEE standards.
Software Proficiency: Skilled in AutoCAD and Revit, alongside power system analysis software such as CYME or ETAP.
Interpersonal Skills: Exceptional communication and leadership abilities, with the capacity to manage shifting priorities in a high-energy environment.
