JOB SUMMARY: The primary purpose of this role is to proactively oversee the maintenance department and its programs in alignment with corporate maintenance standards. This includes supervising all maintenance and project-related activities involving production equipment, ensuring they are carried out safely, efficiently, and in compliance with regulatory guidelines, internal client expectations, budget constraints, and leadership directives. All responsibilities should be executed in a manner that upholds and advances the organization's quality and safety objectives.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:
Personnel and HSE Oversight: Lead a culture of safety and compliance while overseeing maintenance operations and the development of the technical team. Provide direct supervision to both unionized and non-unionized maintenance personnel to ensure safe and effective task execution. Handle labor relations in alignment with applicable collective agreements. Conduct performance evaluations, identify training needs, and ensure team members receive proper development opportunities.

Maintenance Operations Management: Develop mid- and long-term maintenance strategies based on operational priorities and equipment availability. Ensure alignment with organizational maintenance policies and procedures. Prepare and manage maintenance budgets, optimizing resource allocation including staffing, materials, and expenses. Lead and coordinate maintenance activities with a strong focus on cost control. Collaborate on major turnaround (TAR) events with centralized planning teams. Oversee material procurement, spare parts inventory, and the management of critical spare components. Ensure purchase requisitions are technically accurate and aligned with requirements.
Act as the CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) Super User, ensuring accurate and timely data entry into ERP and CMMS systems. Establish work order management standards to support efficient planning, execution, and close-out. Utilize system analytics to enhance cost-efficiency and maintenance outcomes. Track and report on KPIs related to maintenance performance and system usage. Lead regular maintenance meetings to assess schedules, resource needs, and project progress. Maintain data integrity through routine reviews and collaborate with the central team for issue resolution. Scope, plan, and code service requests appropriately in CMMS, including the creation of purchase requests. Coordinate external contractors, monitor service quality, and ensure accurate tracking of labor and costs.

Maintenance Budget and KPI Compliance: Monitor and control maintenance expenditures in alignment with the operating budget. Maintain and track site maintenance KPIs consistent with corporate benchmarks. Ensure accurate documentation of repair costs, preventive maintenance actions, and job planning activities within CMMS.

Preventive Maintenance Leadership: Support and enhance preventive maintenance systems based on guidance from centralized teams. Develop schedules using designated tools and adjust strategies as needed in collaboration with Reliability Engineers to optimize equipment uptime and performance.

Continuous Process Improvement: Engage with both maintenance teams and cross-functional groups to refine job plans and work processes. Regularly analyze maintenance execution, identify performance gaps, and recommend improvements. Suggest procedural and equipment modifications where applicable to enhance reliability, efficiency, and safety.

Quality and Safety Assurance: Promote a strong culture of safety, environmental stewardship, and quality. Implement and manage maintenance frameworks to support operational sustainability. Key quality activities include:
Establishing procedures for flange management and functional equipment check.
Setting calibration protocols and verification for instrumentation alarms and trips
Ensuring compliance with relevant standards and best practices
Conducting routine audits and inspections
Delivering on-the-job training to build technical capabilities
Verifying job completion before closing work orders and permits
Upholding site standards for cleanliness and seasonal yard maintenance (e.g., snow removal)

Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or a Mechanical Technologist diploma
Training: Proficiency in process flows, product handling, equipment operation, health and safety protocols, and hazardous material management
Knowledge: Familiarity with large-scale mechanical systems such as compressors and refrigeration units, experience using CMMS (especially Maximo), and working knowledge of Primavera, Google Workspace tools, electrical/welding procedures, and Canadian maintenance regulations

Experience Requirements:
7–10 years of experience leading a maintenance team, preferably in an industrial or manufacturing environment
