Job Description

Our client is a large well-established property and casualty, mutual insurance company based in Chatham-Kent. They have  over 135 years of experience building relationships with  policyholders, broker partners and community partners. They believe in ongoing training and development opportunities for our team as well as a focus on giving back to our community. They provide a competitive compensation package which includes a comprehensive benefit package and pension and  are currently recruiting for a Farm Underwriter to join their  growing team. 

Currently, we are in search of an Agribusiness Underwriter to join their expanding team. They welcome applicants with varying levels of experience.

Our client is looking for a dynamic and results-driven individual with firsthand knowledge of the farming industry. The selected candidate will be tasked with issuing new business, renewing policies, processing endorsements, and managing cancellations for agribusiness risks (including some residential properties), adhering to Company underwriting guidelines and their respective authority level. Building robust relationships with our broker partners is pivotal for success in this role. Reporting to the Manager of Agribusiness Underwriting, this position offers an exciting opportunity for growth and contribution to our team.

Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and assess risks within the agribusiness portfolio.
  • Negotiate renewal terms.
  • Process new policies, renewals, and endorsements according to underwriting guidelines.
  • Proactively identify and pursue business development opportunities.
  • Review underwriting requests, assist brokers in applying correct rates, and clarify underwriting rules for accurate application.
  • Cultivate and maintain strong relationships with broker partners and colleagues.
  • Provide product training and support to brokers.
  • Coordinate inspections or gather underwriting information to analyze critical risk hazards.
  • Attend insurance industry functions and marketing events to enhance broker relationships and team cohesion.

Qualifications:

  • 3-5 years of agribusiness underwriting experience or equivalent knowledge of the farming/agricultural industry.
  • Background in farming/agriculture (personal or professional) or a graduate diploma from an agricultural college preferred.
  • General knowledge of building construction and residential properties is advantageous.
  • Possession of CIP designation or actively pursuing it.
  • Demonstrates professionalism, friendliness, and courtesy in interactions with brokers and colleagues.
  • Reliable, organized, and eager to learn.
  • Strong team player with exceptional communication and customer service skills.
  • Experience with Guidewire is a plus.
  • Upholds a high level of respect for confidentiality.
