Job Description

The President is the Chief Executive Officer and retains overall responsibility for the school, concentrating directly on the mission and development of Sacred Hearts Academy. Specific areas of responsibility for the President include communication and relations with the Corporate Members of Sacred Hearts Academy, business affairs, and development affairs as well as academic, student, and faith community.

President Responsibilities Faith Community Affairs

  • Promotes the Catholic identity for Sacred Hearts Academy
  • Ensures that the charism of the Congregation of the Sacred Hearts of Jesus and Mary is imbued in all policies of Sacred Hearts Academy.
  • Ensures that all aspects and/or programs of Sacred Hearts Academy are consistent with the school’s mission statement.
  • Oversees the development and enhancement of faith community affairs in conjunction with the School principal and campus minister.
  • Cooperates with the work and responsibilities of the Office of Mission Effectiveness.
  • Ensures that students, parents, faculty, staff, alumnae, and benefactors are all aware of and involved in the faith life of the school.

Board Relations

  • Serves as liaison between the school community and the Board.
  • Reports to directly to the Corporate Members of Sacred Hearts Academy on a regular basis.
  • Updates the SHA School Board on school matters, objectives, needs and both short-term and long-term policies. Business Affairs
  • Provides overall leadership for responsible stewardship and appropriate reporting of school finances to the Board of Directors, government agencies and the school’s constituents.
  • In conjunction with the Board of Directors, assists in formulating, implementing, and disseminating school policy and regulations.
  • Employs, supervises, and evaluates SHA’s Chief Operations Officer.
  • Ensures that the school maintains a safe, clean environment.
  • Coordinates with the Board of Director’s SHA’s long-range/strategic plan.
  • Assists in preparing and monitoring the school budget.
  • Provides oversight of SHA’s cafeteria and nutrition programs for students and faculty.
  • Ensures compliance with school policy in areas of tuition, insurance, faculty salaries and benefits, curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular programs.
  • Oversees physical plant/maintenance operations and technology advancement, and computer hardware development.
  • In cooperation with Business office personnel, prepares admissions materials which deal with finances, tuition, and fees.
  • Is ultimately responsible for the collection of delinquent tuition accounts.

Development Affairs

  • Employs, supervises, evaluates, and dismisses the Director of Development and the Admissions Director.
  • Serves as chief spokesperson and public relations officer for the school and ensures appropriate communication with various publics.
  • Insures and coordinates appropriate promotion and public relations efforts and media relations.
  • Reviews and approves all fund-raising and development initiatives and activities.
  • Oversees fund raising events.
  • Oversees annual and deferred giving programs.
  • Oversees marketing programs for image and enrollment.
  • Oversees overall student recruitment, admissions. and retention programs.

Academic and Student Affairs

  • Hires, supervises, and evaluates the Principals of the Lower and Upper Schools.
  • Participates in hiring and dismissing of staff.
  • Ensures that policies are promulgated and implemented concerning academic and student affairs.
  • Ensures the overall quality of the academic programs through the principals.
  • Keeps abreast of current developments in Catholic education.
  • Attends/supervises school events in cooperation with the administrative team.

Qualifications/Minimum Requirements
  • Proven executive leadership, including the presence, energy and vision needed to effect positive outcomes and to move the Academy into the future.
  • A minimum of five years of previous experience in K-12 administration.
  • Reputation for leading and relating to the students, parents, faculty, and staff with energy, enthusiasm, and warmth.
  • Record of success as a visionary leader, including the financial skills and acumen required to facilitate the allocation of resources effectively and efficiently among competing needs of the school.
  • Demonstrated ability to attract financial and other support for the Academy and to enhance the school’s established reputation.
  • Proven experience bringing together diverse stakeholders using collaboration and consensus building skills, as well as a history of working with boards, faculty, staff, students, alumni, and the broader community.
  • Master’s degree required; doctoral degree preferred in education or a related field.
  • A practicing Catholic with a commitment to the legacy of Catholic education, community service, and social justice.
  • Is committed to the philosophy of Catholic education and to effective collaboration with the Catholic Diocese of Honolulu.
