JOB DESCRIPTION OVERVIEW

This pivotal role focuses on providing exceptional design and space planning services. The Designer/Space Planner translates client goals into aesthetic and efficient furniture space plans, ensuring form and function align seamlessly. The position entails professional representation of the company's design services, and effective communication with internal teams, clients, and external project partners.

Design Process

  • Collaborate with sales and/or clients to understand project goals and scope before initiating work.
  • Conduct on-site visits to assess space, construction details, and potential design constraints.
  • Develop fit plans, space plans, and renderings using CET, AutoCAD and other software.
  • Select suitable products that meet project objectives, budgets, and timelines.
  • Verify specifications against construction plans, blueprints, and drawings, ensuring accuracy.
  • Oversee changes and revisions throughout projects.
  • Prepare final drawings and CAP documentation for pricing.
  • Create installation drawings in advance of installation dates.
  • Create "As Built Design" files upon project completion for Final File.

Department Practices

  • Prepare written and visual design proposals for customer presentations when required.
  • Estimate design hours and track actual hours for each project.
  • Manage project schedule adherence and design quality.
  • Communicate project status regularly to the project team.
  • Maintain thorough electronic project documentation.
  • Identify new product offerings that enhance the company's portfolio.
  • Organize and update textile and finish samples.

Coordination & Planning

  • Collaborate with internal project teams throughout projects.
  • Assist in coordinating phone, data, and network planning with relevant parties.
  • Attend pre-installation meetings to explain installation plans.

Organizational Interfaces

  • Foster positive relationships within the company and external partners.
  • Contribute innovative ideas to enhance the company's design department and services.
  • Interface and collaborate effectively with the company's sales, project management, customer service, and operations.
  • Maintain professional communication with clients, consultants, and contractors.
  • Build and nurture relationships with manufacturer partners.

Contract Furniture/Design Industry Knowledge

  • Demonstrate knowledge and stay updated on relevant building codes, ADA regulations, etc.
  • Stay informed about workplace interior design trends and practices.
  • Understand workplace environment considerations like ergonomics and technology integration.
  • Maintain up-to-date knowledge of preferred contract furniture lines.
  • Grasp contract furniture processes from order preparation to installation.

Job Requirements and Skills

  • Must be highly organized, detail-oriented, and accurate.
  • 2+ years of experience in interior design production, AutoCAD, contract furnishings, corporate/commercial interiors, drafting, or other related fields.
  • AutoCAD, MS Excel, Word, and PowerPoint Required. CET and CAP 20/20 experience is not required, but highly valued.
  • SketchUp, AutoDesk Revit or other 3D software is a plus, but not required.
