Job Description

JOB SUMMARY
This role partners with employees and management to provide expert advice and recommend solutions on the full spectrum of employee relations and compliance issues. This includes overseeing investigations in your business areas, responding to situations, advising on conflict resolution, and corrective action in compliance with company policies and regulatory guidelines. Supports the development and implementation of organizational development programs and supports talent management programs and practices.

 DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Listed below are the major duties and responsibilities of this position. Essential job functions are identified with an asterisk (*).

1. Provides Employee Relations consultation to management and employees to resolve workplace issues and advise on employee conflict resolution, corrective action and/or termination for assigned areas, in partnership with the Human Resources Manager (70%)*

  • Investigates workplace concerns including, complaints of employment discrimination, harassment, and retaliation, to ensure issues are resolved in adherence to all company, state, and federal policies, procedures, and regulations.
  • Prepares, tracks, and maintains appropriate investigation documentation.
  • Develops and implements investigation plans.
  • Collaborates and advises management on employee corrective action, training, etc.
  • Drives prompt closure of open cases / concerns.
  • Handles employee data and statements in a highly confidential manner.
  • Drafts concise and clear investigation reports.
  • Collaborates with management on matters of policy.
  • Advises employees and management on organizational policy matters, such as equal employment opportunity and harassment, and recommends needed changes.
  • Coaches and trains management in best practice employee relations practices and strategies for creating an engaging work experience while managing performance.
  • Provides support to employees and management regarding employee corrective action and performance matters.
2. Supports and implements talent management programs and practices.  Provides professional expertise and support in the design, development and implementation of the talent review process and programs needed to achieve business goals and results in the creation of an internal bench of top talent. (30%)*
  • Works with the VP of HR to implement the organization’s Talent Management strategy by preparing for, participating in, and documenting Talent Reviews.
  • Engages in succession planning discussions with a focus on individual development plans.
  • Collects, analyzes, and maintains information gathered to inform targeted leadership development.
  • Works with leaders to design and implement customized solutions to meet development and organization effectiveness needs; including facilitating training programs.
  • Facilitates problem solving and decision making by assessing and diagnosing departmental situations, including data gathering, research, and data analysis.
  • Serves as an internal consultant to facilitate team building and resolving team conflict.
  • Assesses workforce development needs and opportunities, and generates behavior-based learning solutions that align with talent management and learning priorities.
  • Provides informal coaching to management to expand their leadership competencies and skills.
  • Works closely with other specialty areas in Human Resources and Workforce Planning to coordinate cross-functional initiatives throughout the organization.
  • Participates in organizational change efforts.
3. Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Identifies and analyzes problems; makes decisions and takes appropriate action(s).
  • Assists internal and external customers with questions, concerns, problems, etc.
  • Maintains a positive work climate and effective working relationships with internal and external customers.
  • Maintains attendance as scheduled/assigned, consistent with company’s policies and procedures.
  • Attends and/or participates in activities such as, but not limited to, meetings, projects, required in-service programs, and continuing education.
    • Participates in, leads, and facilitates meetings and projects involving internal and external stakeholders.
    • Manages projects utilizing process improvement methods.
  • Models the behaviors consistent with the mission, vision, and shared values of the organization.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information in accordance with company policies and procedures.

JOB DEMANDS
Communication Demands:

  • Excellent writing skills to communicate complex information in emails and memos.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to speak effectively before groups of internal and external customers.
  • Ability to lead training presentations and facilitations.
  • Ability to write effective executive summaries.

Typical Physical Demands:

  • Able to sit and operate a computer keyboard for up to three (3) hours continuously.
  • Able to key for up to four (4) hours per day intermittently.
  • Able to stand up to eight (8) hours per day when facilitating.
  • Able to lift, carry, push, or pull up to thirty-five (35) pounds occasionally.
  • Requires occasional ground or air travel.
Typical Working Conditions:
  • Work environment includes conditions common to an office environment with computers, printers, and light foot traffic.
  • Generally works in an indoor, air-conditioned area.

QUALIFICATIONS
Education

Required:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Human Resources, Organizational Development, Industrial/Organizational Psychology or related field.

Experience
Required:

  • At least four (4) years employee relations experience, including conducting investigations and corrective action.
  • At least one (1) year of talent management and/or leadership development/training experience.
  • Proven track record facilitating team building and leadership development.
Preferred:
  • Healthcare experience.
  • Collective bargaining experience. 
Skills
Required:
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both in verbal and written form.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and with a team.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Strong communication skills, as well as interpersonal, coaching, consulting, and process skills.
  • Effective problem-solving, decision-making and project management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite or similar software.
  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, ordinances, and policies.
  • Ability to effectively handle difficult, complex and/or emotional issues while maintaining confidentiality and professionalism.
  • Knowledge of employment laws (EEO, ADA, AA, FMLA, etc.) and other regulatory and statutory requirements.
  • Ability to comprehend, interpret, and apply the appropriate sections of applicable laws, guidelines, regulations, and policies.
  • Working knowledge of Human Resources Information Systems (HRIS) programs
Preferred:
  • Working knowledge of HRIS PeopleSoft program.

Other Qualifications
Required:

  • Able to travel between business locations.

SCHEDULE

  • Regular Full-Time Position 
  • Must be available Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 4:30 pm.
  • Must be flexible to meet operational needs.
