Mechanical Design Engineer II
The Mechanical Engineer II will spearhead design, development, and validation projects from concept through production. This role involves cultivating cross-functional teams, overseeing engineering challenges, and ensuring the integration of technologies with a focus on quality, safety, and time-to-market efficiency.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
Mechanical Design and Development
- Provide mechanical system, component, and product design.
- Apply mechanical engineering principles and manufacturing processes.
- Use CAD tools (e.g., AutoCAD, SolidWorks, PDM) to develop accurate models and documentation.
- Ensure designs comply with customer specifications and regulatory requirements.
Documentation and Compliance
- Maintain detailed project documentation: drawings, specs, test reports, catalogs, and schedules.
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, codes, and company policies.
- Follow SOPs and filing protocols for project lifecycle consistency.
Cross-Functional Collaboration and Communication
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams: electrical, applications, project management, procurement, and technicians.
- Communicate effectively with team members, leadership, and customers.
- Represent engineering at tradeshows and during customer-facing activities.
- Provide timely updates and solutions to internal and external stakeholders.
Project Leadership and Risk Management
- Lead mechanical design portions of projects from conception through completion.
- Monitor progress of designs against schedules and budgets.
- Identify and mitigate risks and challenges that may affect project outcomes.
- Drive adherence to internal project standards and expectations.
Continuous Improvement and Professional Development
- Support continuous improvement initiatives within mechanical engineering.
- Stay current with industry trends, tools, and best practices.
- Support company initiatives
- Contribute to a culture of problem-solving, discipline, and accountability.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering with 2+ years of experience, associate's degree with 5+ years of experience, or 10+ years of experience with no degree.
- Strong oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate design.
- Ability to use various precision measuring instruments.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, PDM, and other office systems.
- Ability to travel to customer or vendor sites up to 15%.
Desired Skills
- Adept at balancing multiple projects simultaneously, ensuring productivity while maintaining project quality.
- Experience within the automated machinery or packaging industry is highly preferred.
- Experience in client-facing interactions.
- Experience mentoring new or junior engineers.
