Job Description

Our client in Shelby, MI is adding a Director of Engineering to their team who will plan, organize and direct the engineering team to meet company objectives for design, new product development and improvement of existing product lines by performing the following duties personally or through subordinates.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Manages product design from design to execution.
  • Maintains and establishes standards for engineering department.
  • Assigns projects to the engineering staff based on skill level.
  • Audits orders and engineering drawings/designs on a regular basis to ensure products are designed to meet customer specifications.
  • Selects, develops, trains and manages engineering team capable of carrying out engineering initiatives.
  • Integrates engineering function into 3 different software programs – Inventor/Vault, AutoCAD and Microvellum.
  • Works closely with Plant Managers in addressing manufacturing issues as they occur on the shop floor.
  • Assists in the development of installation instructions and resolves issues as they arise.
  • Clarifies design questions pertaining to customer requirements.
  • Standardizes the engineering process to ensure products are designed within the company standard practice procedures.
  • Follows safety rules and safe work habits.
  • Performs other duties as requested, directed or assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY

This position manages all employees of the engineering department and is responsible for the performance management and hiring of the employees within that department.

This is an onsite position with work hours of Monday – Friday from 7:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  As job duties demand, additional work hours will be required.

TRAVEL

Occasional travel may be expected in this position to clients and suppliers.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’s Degree.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience with AutoCAD, Inventor software and Vault experience.
  • Working knowledge of engineering systems & structures (rules for everything).
  • Knowledgeable with wood and alternatives.
  • Proven track record of Action/Execution.
  • Previous engineering management or engineering project management team lead experience.
