Director of Engineering

 Job Description

As the director of engineering, you will lead and manage a team of engineers across four disciplines: applications engineering, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering and R&D engineering. You will oversee the design development, testing and implementation of innovative and cost effective custom machine solutions. You will also collaborate with other departments, such as sales, marketing, and operations, to ensure the quality and efficiency of our client's products and services.

Responsible for directing Engineering, and execution of business and departmental plans. Plans and directs all aspects of engineering activities within an organization. Ensures all engineering projects, initiatives, and processes are in conformance with org's established policies and are driven for results. Demonstrates expertise in a variety of the field's concepts, practices, and procedures. Relies on extensive experience, judgment and decisiveness to plan and accomplish goals. Develop and measure progress through metrics and tangible goals. Formulating and enforcing policies for departmental sustainability and growth. Create team consensus and unity when setting goals or resolving conflicts.

Coach, monitor & enforce accountability. Implement departmental staffing strategies and develop collaborative relationships across the company. Provide strong leadership skills, great communication skills, and high motivation.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute the engineering strategy and vision for the company, aligning it with the business goals and customers needs
  • Manage and mentor a team of engineers, providing them with guidance, feedback, and career development opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain engineering standards, policies, and procedures, ensuring compliance with industry regulations and best practices.
  • Coordinate and oversee the engineering projects, from concept to completion, ensuring that they meet the specifications, budget, and timeline.
  • Influence engineering department and drive business strategies and plans
  • Review and approve the engineering designs, drawings, calculations, and documentation, ensuring their accuracy and quality.
  • Research and evaluate new technologies, methods, and materials, and implement them into the engineering processes and products.
  • Collaborate with other directors, managers, and stakeholders, to communicate the engineering progress, issues, and solutions.
  • Execute complete resolution matters - managing & executing engineering projects end-to-end
  • Represent the engineering department in external meetings, presentations, and negotiations with our client's customers, suppliers, and partners
  • Review overall contractual requirements for projects and process methodology
  • Develop and monitor departmental metrics and quarterly goals
  • Introduce capacity planning methods and proactively monitor
  • Drive engagement within engineering department and connectivity to the organization
  • Evaluate and improve systems and processes to effectively meet project requirements and profitability goals
  • Implement staffing strategies
  • Active involvement in developing & simplifying new products & setting timelines
  • Comply with ERP software & projects by setting requirements, goals and timelines
  • Implementing best practice or SOP engineering methods

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field, master's degree preferred.
  • At least 10 years of engineering experience, with 5 years in a leadership or management role.
  • Minimum of 3 years Engineering management of automation systems or robotics
  • Minimum of 3 years Technical project management experience
  • Proven track record of successfully managing and delivering complex engineering projects in the industry.
  • Strong knowledge of engineering principles, methods, and tools, as well as packaging equipment and systems.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and leadership skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire a team of engineers.
  • Highly analytical, creative, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and innovatively.
  • Proficient in engineering software, such as CAD, CAM, and PLC’s.
  • Willingness to travel as needed

Limited Travel Requirement
