Our client, a well-established organization with a specialized labour and employment practice, is seeking a Labour Legal Assistant to join its team on a temporary full-time basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented legal professional who enjoys working in a collaborative environment and supporting lawyers in a busy labour law practice.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide legal and administrative support to lawyers and articling students
- Manage calendars and coordinate meetings, hearings, mediations, and other appointments
- Draft, format, revise, file, and serve legal documents, correspondence, and pleadings
- Maintain and organize electronic and physical files
- Communicate professionally with clients, counsel, tribunals, and other stakeholders in person, by phone, and electronically
- Assist with document management, records maintenance, and file preparation
- Provide overflow support to other lawyers and assistants as required
- Perform other related duties and responsibilities as assigned
Requirements
- Certificate as a Legal Administrative Assistant or Law Clerk, or a minimum of 2 years of labour law experience
- Knowledge of construction labour law is considered a strong asset
- Familiarity with Ontario Labour Relations Board Rules and Procedures is considered an asset
- Strong proficiency with legal software, office technology, and computer applications commonly used in law firms
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite and Internet research
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proven ability to prioritize competing demands and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
- Sound judgment and problem-solving abilities, including knowing when to escalate issues appropriately
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
