Intellectual Property Litigation Assistant

Salary: $65,000 - $80,000 per annum

Our client, a respected law firm located in downtown Toronto, is seeking an experienced Intellectual Property Litigation Assistant to join their team. This is an excellent opportunity for a detail-oriented legal assistant with strong experience in intellectual property litigation and patent/trademark matters to work alongside a dynamic group of lawyers in a fast-paced environment.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Prepare and file legal documents with the Federal Court through the E-filing portal
- Obtain court documents from the Federal Court and Federal Court of Appeal
- Proofread, format, and prepare legal and general correspondence and documentation
- Generate and prepare monthly billing from start to finish
- Open and close client files in a timely manner
- Provide administrative support to lawyers and assist with day-to-day operations and special projects
- Manage communications and correspondence, ensuring timely follow-up on outstanding matters
- Prepare expense reports, maintain calendars, coordinate meetings, and arrange travel
- Maintain lawyer contact lists and organize client files and filing systems
- Assist with intellectual property matters including patent and trademark filings, portfolio management, and liaising with external counsel and government agencies
Requirements:
- Minimum 5 years of experience as a Litigation Assistant within an Intellectual Property Litigation and Patent/Trademark environment
- In-depth knowledge of Federal Courts Rules and procedures
- Strong knowledge of patent and trademark prosecution
- Exceptional proofreading, spelling, and grammar skills
- Excellent organizational skills with strong attention to detail
- Ability to manage multiple priorities, work under pressure, and meet deadlines
- Ability to handle confidential and sensitive information with professionalism and discretion
- Strong interpersonal skills with a positive and collaborative work ethic
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
