Our client, a diverse, dynamic, and award-winning commercial litigation law firm located in the heart of Toronto’s financial district, is seeking an experienced Commercial Litigation Law Clerk to join their team. The firm is known for delivering cost-effective legal solutions across a broad range of litigation matters, including employment, contract, and real property disputes.
This is an excellent opportunity for a proactive and detail-oriented law clerk who thrives in a collaborative environment and is equally comfortable working independently.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Draft pleadings and file court documents using the e-Civil filing portal
- Prepare, revise, and proofread legal documents and correspondence
- Schedule and coordinate examinations, issue notices of examination, and draft client preparation letters
- Organize and review client documentation; identify missing materials and prepare Affidavits of Documents
- Order transcripts, prepare undertaking charts, and assist with responses to undertakings
- Prepare mediation briefs, pre-trial briefs, and assist with trial preparation, including summonses and joint books of documents
Requirements:
- Post-secondary education in a related field (Law Clerk, Legal Assistant, or Paralegal)
- Minimum 5+ years of commercial litigation experience
- This is a drafting‑heavy, tech‑forward role
- Strong knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure and court processes
- Excellent attention to detail with the ability to meet tight deadlines
- Strong organizational and time-management skills with the ability to multitask
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, Excel, GhostPractice, and ACL
- Familiarity with Dropbox, Adobe, DocuSign, Zoom, and CaseLines
- Experience with CanLII and/or Westlaw is considered an asset
- Strong typing skills (75–80 WPM) and excellent communication abilities
- Ability to work independently, take initiative, and manage urgent matters effectively
- Willingness to work occasional overtime as required
