Our client, a leading Toronto law firm specializing in insurance litigation, is seeking an Insurance Defence Legal Assistant/Law Clerk to join their team. Duties & Responsibilities
- Provide administrative legal support to lawyers in an insurance defence practice
- Maintain bring-forward system and manage lawyers’ calendars
- Open, close, and maintain legal files (electronic and paper)
- Prepare, transcribe, and revise legal documents and correspondence
- Draft basic court documents including Notices of Intent to Defend, Motion Confirmations, and consent Dismissal Orders
- Assist with drafting pleadings, affidavits, and other litigation documents
- Schedule examinations for discovery, mediations, and motions
- Communicate professionally with clients, insurance companies, and court representatives
- Request and follow up on undertakings
- Summarize and organize medical documentation
- Assist with trial preparation and manage electronic data for discovery and trial
- Support docketing, timesheets, and billing processes
- Coordinate travel arrangements and other administrative tasks as required
Requirements
- 3-5+ years of experience in Insurance Defence as a Legal Assistant and/or Law Clerk
- Legal Assistant Certificate or Law Clerk Diploma
- Strong knowledge of the Rules of Civil Procedure
- Experience with litigation documents and court procedures
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office and legal software (PC Law, Sharefile; e-Discovery tools an asset)
- Excellent organizational, multitasking, and time management skills
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment
