We are seeking an experienced Litigation Law Clerk to join a busy insurance litigation practice. This is a hybrid clerk role that combines substantive litigation work with digital file management, scheduling, and practice support typically associated with a legal assistant function. The ideal candidate is highly organized, detail-oriented, and comfortable managing complex files from intake through trial.
Review and analyze Statements of Claim, adjuster reports, and liability and medical productions
Prepare file summaries and identify gaps in productions and further investigative needs
Draft Statements of Defence, Affidavits of Documents, and related correspondence
Prepare, serve, and file pleadings and litigation materials including motions, mediation and pre-trial memoranda, orders, and releases
Compile motion records and other court materials
Maintain tickler and bring-forward systems
Track undertakings, review responses, and prepare summaries and updated charts
Assemble and maintain document briefs
Coordinate the retention of experts and investigators and prepare document briefs
Conduct basic legal research and review procedural rules across jurisdictions as required
Assist with trial preparation including briefs, exhibits, timelines, witness coordination, and logistics
Attend trials as required
Scheduling, diarizing, and deadline management
Prepare monthly fee accounts and expense reports
Respond to client inquiries and assist with reports, presentations, and special projects
Post-secondary degree or diploma required
Law Clerk or Paralegal diploma and membership in (or eligibility for) ILCO
4–6 years’ experience as a Law Clerk, preferably in an insurance litigation environment
Strong knowledge of the Ontario Rules of Civil Procedure
Proficiency in MS Word, Outlook, Excel, and legal software
Excellent written and verbal communication skills with strong attention to detail
Highly organized, able to manage multiple priorities, and comfortable working independently and collaboratively
