Our client, a leading and long-established organization in Hamilton’s development sector, is seeking a dedicated Legal Assistant to support its Vice President & Chief Legal Counsel. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with legal training who thrives in a collaborative environment and enjoys juggling a variety of responsibilities connected to land development and legal operations. The successful candidate will play a key role in ensuring the smooth functioning of the legal and land teams while gaining valuable experience and professional growth.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Support the Chief Legal Counsel by drafting and preparing a wide range of legal documents, such as correspondence, agreements of purchase and sale, leases, litigation materials, and condominium disclosure packages.
- Coordinate meetings for the land development team, including preparing agendas and organizing required documentation.
- Maintain internal tracking reports, including the Property Tax Appeal log and Litigation Status updates.
- Assist the Company’s Paralegal by gathering, organizing, and managing documentary evidence for litigation matters.
- Facilitate enrolment of development projects with the Tarion Warranty Corporation and the Home Construction Regulatory Authority.
- Help maintain the Company’s corporate records and assist with the formation and organization of new condominium corporations.
- Support the land team with various development-related documents, including statutory declarations and execution copies of development agreements.
- Provide administrative support to the Vice President & Chief Legal Officer as needed.
- Represent the legal department in meetings and communications with internal departments, consultants, government bodies, property managers, and other stakeholders.
Requirements
- Degree or diploma in a legal or law-related discipline.
- Previous experience in legal administration and/or executive-level administrative support.
- Strong organizational skills and excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Experience in the homebuilding or land development industry.
- Exposure to corporate law processes such as minute book maintenance and drafting resolutions.
- Experience working with municipalities or government authorities.
- Access to a vehicle for occasional work-related travel.
