Client Profile
Our client, a leading Toronto firm is currently looking for a Family Law/Civil Litigation Assistant. This firm has an excellent culture and a lot of career development opportunities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage family law and civil litigation matters assigned by the lawyer;
- Manage dockets, calendars, and deadlines;
- Coordinating court dates;
- Liaise professionally with lawyers, clients, courts, and process servers;
- Open, close and maintain legal files;
- Prepare drafts of correspondence, financial statements, affidavits, orders, pleadings and other legal documents;
- Assemble answers to undertakings;
- Assist with docketing and client billing;
- Arrange for filing and service of documents;
- Manage timelines and bring-forward system; and
- Assist with other legal/administrative duties as needed.
Requirements:
- Legal Assistant or Law Clerk diploma from an accredited institution;
- 2+ years of family law and/or civil litigation experience;
- Solid understanding of Family Law Rules and court filing processes;
- Hands-on experience working with transactional/complex documents
- Exceptional drafting skills (correspondence, pleadings, affidavits, briefs);
- Strong proficiency in MS Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), PC Law, DivorceMate and ACL;
- Exercises discretion and ability to keep matters confidential at all times;
and
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and time management skills.
