Client Profile
Our client, a reputable law firm located in downtown Toronto, is seeking an experienced Estate Litigation Legal Assistant to join their team. This role is ideal for a skilled professional who thrives in a fast-paced litigation environment and is looking to bring their expertise to a busy, collaborative team.

Key Responsibilities

  • Draft and prepare legal documents including pleadings, affidavits, and correspondence
  • File court documents electronically (e.g., via CaseLines, Justice Services Online)
  • Manage and organize litigation files, including tracking deadlines, court dates, and limitation period
  • Prepare and organize materials for examinations, mediations, and court appearances
  • Communicate with clients, court staff, and opposing counsel in a professional manner
  • Open and close files in accordance with firm procedures
  • Maintain up-to-date and accurate dockets and billing records
  • Schedule meetings, appointments, and court attendances for lawyers
  • Perform conflict checks, file searches, and request certificates of appointment of estate trustee
  • Assist with eDiscovery platforms for document review and production

Required Qualifications

-           5+ years of experience in a commercial litigation and/or estates practice area in a law firm;

-           Legal Assistant Diploma from an accredited institution;

-           Experience with health law is an asset;

-           Familiarity working within a DMS system is an asset;

-           Hands-on experience with pre-bill administration (preferably using Elite)

-           Experience using Automated Civil Litigation;

-           Clear understanding of Rules of Civil Procedure;

-           Strong transcription and proofreading skills;

-           Proficiency with MS Office; and

-           Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills.

-           Technologically proficient in Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Teams) and experience with legal platforms such as CaseLines/CaseCenter, iManage, InterAction, Estatably, eDiscovery tools (e.g., Relativity), Wind Up, ACL, and DocuSign is an asset.
