Client Profile
Our client, a reputable Toronto firm is currently looking for a Litigation Assistant in Insurance and Tort Liability. This firm has an excellent culture and a lot of career development opportunities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage calendars, ensuring they are up to date including reminding lawyers of upcoming deadlines;
- Arrange meetings, conference rooms, food/refreshments, check rooms prior to meetings and liaise with meeting attendees;
- Arrange for travel bookings and accommodations as required;
- Provide legal administrative support on mainly Tort files;
- Prepare correspondence, pleading, and other legal documents;
- Assemble materials for mediation, pre-trial and case conference briefs, motion records, etc.;
- Open / close / maintain legal files;
- Assist with scheduling discoveries and other meetings and manage calendars;
- Assist with preparation for trials and arbitrations;
- Attend to court filings;
- Liaise with clients, opposing counsel, courts, tribunals and professionals;
- Manage ticker and bring-forward system for lawyers;
- Arranging defence medical assessments;
- Enter, maintain and update client details and relevant information in the Firm’s CRM contacts system;
- Assist with docketing, billing, and cheque requisitions; and
- Other administrative duties as needed.
Requirements:
- Legal Assistant or Law Clerk Diploma from an Accredited Institution;
- Experience supporting multiple lawyers with specialization in the area of insurance and tort liability an asset;
- Understanding of Civil Litigation inclusive of court filing/service procedures;
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, research tools and other systems implemented by the firm;
- Excellent communication skills, organizational skills and attention to detail;
- Focused, professional, flexible, team-player attitude, and;
- Strong initiative and follow up skills.
