Total: $31–$35/hour

The Opportunity

We're looking for an experienced CNC Set-Up Machinist to serve as a key technical resource on 2nd Shift at an established manufacturing operation in Ossian, IN.

This is more than a machine operation role. You'll be the person others rely on to set up machines, manage changeovers, troubleshoot problems, and keep production running efficiently.

You'll work across CNC mills and lathes, handling different jobs, tooling requirements, and production demands. When a job changes over or a machining issue comes up, you'll be expected to understand the process, identify the problem, and get things back on track.

This is a great fit for a machinist who knows their way around CNC equipment, enjoys the technical side of the work, and wants to take ownership of the operation rather than simply run parts all shift.

The company has been in business for 65+ years, with consistent growth and a strong reputation in the industry.

What You'll Work On

  • CNC Mills supporting high-volume production

  • CNC Lathes handling a variety of jobs and smaller production runs

  • Multiple machines, setups, and changeovers

  • Tooling, workholding, and machining process adjustments

  • Precision components requiring consistent quality

What You'll Be Doing

Setups & Changeovers

  • Set up CNC mills and/or lathes for production runs

  • Complete machine changeovers as jobs and production requirements change

  • Install and verify tooling, fixtures, and workholding

  • Load and verify programs and make necessary offsets

  • Ensure machines are properly set up before releasing jobs into production

  • Verify initial parts meet print specifications before continuing production

Troubleshooting & Technical Support

  • Troubleshoot machining, tooling, and setup issues

  • Diagnose problems affecting part quality or production efficiency

  • Make adjustments to offsets, tooling, and machining processes as needed

  • Help resolve issues that operators cannot address independently

  • Keep production moving while maintaining quality standards

  • Serve as a go-to technical resource for the 2nd Shift team

Production & Quality

  • Operate CNC equipment as needed to support production

  • Perform first-piece and in-process inspections

  • Read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings

  • Use precision measuring equipment, including micrometers, calipers, and gauges

  • Learn and utilize CMM and optical comparator inspection equipment as needed

  • Maintain consistent part quality and identify issues before they affect production

Day-to-Day Ownership

  • Manage setups and production priorities with minimal supervision

  • Coordinate changeovers to minimize downtime

  • Help operators resolve machine and quality issues

  • Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area

  • Take ownership of equipment readiness, production continuity, and quality

What We're Looking For

  • Strong CNC setup and changeover experience

  • Experience with CNC mills, CNC lathes, or both

  • Ability to complete setups with limited supervision

  • Understanding of tooling, workholding, offsets, and machining processes

  • Ability to troubleshoot machining and quality issues

  • Experience reading blueprints and inspecting precision components

  • Ability to work independently and make sound technical decisions

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality

Additional Experience That Helps

  • Experience setting up multiple CNC machines

  • Familiarity with CMMs and optical comparators

  • Experience supporting CNC operators on an off shift

  • Ability to identify opportunities to improve setups and reduce downtime

  • Experience working in a high-mix or high-volume manufacturing environment

Why This Role Stands Out

  • $31–$35/hour total compensation, including shift premium

  • A technical role with meaningful responsibility

  • Opportunity to be the go-to machinist on 2nd Shift

  • Variety across CNC milling and turning operations

  • Independence to troubleshoot and solve problems

  • Established company with 65+ years in business

  • Opportunity to expand your technical skills and long-term earning potential

Schedule & Overtime

  • 2nd Shift: 3:00pm–11:30pm

  • Full-time position

  • Overtime is voluntary

  • Optional Saturday hours available

  • Opportunity to pick up additional hours if desired

Compensation & Benefits

  • $28–$32/hour base pay

  • +$3/hour 2nd Shift premium

  • $31–$35/hour total hourly rate

  • Benefits begin the 1st of the month after hire

  • 8 paid holidays + 3 floating holidays

  • 104 hours of PTO annually in year one

Additional Perks

  • Quarterly Chip Bonus

  • Annual performance reviews and raises

  • Growth-based pay increases

  • Stable, established manufacturing operation

The Bottom Line

This is the person who makes sure the machines are ready, the setups are right, and production keeps moving on 2nd Shift.

If you have the experience to handle CNC setups and changeovers, troubleshoot problems, and serve as the technical go-to when issues arise, this role offers the opportunity to put those skills to work.

You'll earn $31–$35/hour, work with CNC mills and lathes, and have the independence to make a real impact on the operation.
