Job Description

EH&S Manager

Full-Time | Wabash, IN | Metal Processing
$70,000–$85,000/year | Based on Experience

The Opportunity

We're looking for an experienced EH&S Manager to take ownership of Environmental, Health & Safety programs at a long-established metal processing operation in Wabash.

This is a one-person EH&S function with responsibility across the facility. You'll work directly with management, supervisors, production, quality, and HR to ensure safety and environmental programs are being followed, maintained, and continuously improved.

The biggest priorities are regulatory compliance, supervisor development, and building greater ownership of EH&S practices throughout the operation.

This is a hands-on position for someone who is comfortable being on the floor, identifying risks, having difficult conversations when necessary, and helping supervisors and employees understand what good safety practices look like.

What You'll Be Doing

Safety & Compliance

  • Own day-to-day EH&S programs, practices, and protocols
  • Inspect work areas, equipment, and processes for safety and regulatory compliance
  • Identify hazards and recommend corrective measures
  • Have the authority to stop at-risk behaviors and unsafe conditions
  • Work with supervisors and management to address safety concerns
  • Investigate accidents and identify opportunities to prevent recurrence
  • Maintain and update emergency response procedures

Environmental & Regulatory

  • Manage environmental and OSHA regulatory reporting and recordkeeping
  • Maintain compliance with applicable OSHA, EPA, NIOSH, and local/state regulations
  • Maintain required EH&S records and documentation
  • Monitor compliance with facility environmental and safety requirements
  • Maintain the SDS database and related documentation

Training & Development

  • Conduct safety training and employee education
  • Provide new-employee safety orientations
  • Develop and maintain training materials
  • Work with supervisors to improve their ownership of EH&S programs
  • Help supervisors understand and consistently enforce safety practices

Industrial Safety

The role will work directly around the facility's primary hazards, including:

  • Molten metal processes
  • Mobile equipment
  • Industrial production equipment
  • Employee safety and compliance
  • Active industrial yard operations

What We're Looking For

Required:

  • 5+ years of EH&S experience
  • Strong understanding of OSHA and environmental regulations
  • Experience working in a manufacturing or industrial environment
  • Strong problem-solving and investigative skills
  • Ability to understand production processes and identify potential hazards
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of the EH&S function
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint

Education:

Bachelor's degree in Safety Engineering, Environmental Science, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field or equivalent work experience.

What Makes This Role Different

This isn't a position where you'll sit in an office and manage paperwork.

You'll be the EH&S leader on the floor, working directly with employees and supervisors and helping build a stronger safety culture throughout the facility.

You will have the authority to address unsafe conditions and behaviors immediately. When disciplinary action is appropriate, you'll make recommendations to the appropriate supervisor, Plant Manager, or HR based on the situation.

Because this is a standalone EH&S role, you'll have significant ownership and visibility across the operation.

Why You'll Want to Work Here

  • Nearly 70 years of stability
  • Long-established manufacturing operation
  • No history of layoffs or downsizing
  • High level of ownership and autonomy
  • Direct access to plant leadership
  • Opportunity to make a measurable impact on safety culture
  • Hands-on industrial environment
  • Strong long-term career opportunity

Benefits

  • $70,000–$85,000/year, based on experience
  • Benefits available after 60 days
  • Competitive attendance and PTO programs
  • Generous bereavement leave
  • Strong maternity and paternity leave benefits
  • Stable company with many long-tenured employees

Work Environment

This is a hands-on industrial position requiring frequent movement throughout the facility and active production areas.

The role may involve exposure to:

  • Molten metal and metal processing operations
  • Mobile equipment
  • Industrial noise and dust
  • Outdoor/yard conditions
  • Uneven surfaces and changing weather conditions
  • Walking, climbing, bending, and navigating active production areas

The Bottom Line

If you're an experienced EH&S professional who wants real ownership, direct access to leadership, and the ability to influence safety culture rather than simply manage paperwork, this is a strong opportunity.

You'll be the person responsible for making sure EH&S doesn't just exist on paper—it gets owned and practiced throughout the operation.
