Commercial Litigation Paralegal

Full time | Hybrid

SUMMARY:

Performs a variety of duties to assist attorneys and observes the confidentiality of client matters.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

These are primarily job duties that the paralegal must be able to perform unassisted or with some reasonable accommodation by the employer.

  • Review and analyze documentation provided by client: correspondence, notices, applications, notes, guaranties, etc.
  • Draft complaints, answers, routine notices, affidavits, motions, trial, appellate and other underlying documents.
  • Assist attorneys in effectuating recovery in prejudgment and post-judgment, including tracking damages (i.e. interest calculation, costs and payments).
  • Perform legal research.
  • Assist attorneys in preparation of case for motions, hearings, and conferences in anticipation of trial.
  • Review and outline depositions, indexes, and summarize documents.
  • Utilize computerized litigation techniques and software when applicable.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES REQUIRED:

  • Advanced knowledge of legal principles, concepts, terminology, and procedures at a level normally acquired through formal paralegal training/certification.
  • 5-10 years (or more) of on-the-job experience in complex commercial litigation.
  • Ability to organize and prioritize numerous tasks and complete them under time constraints. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention to detail.
  • Ability to proofread typed material for contextual, grammatical, typographical, or spelling errors.
  • Interpersonal skills necessary in order to communicate in person, by e-mail, and by telephone, and follow instructions effectively with a diverse group of clients, attorneys, and staff.
  • Expected to bill all time daily.
  • Confidence and experience to allow the candidate to not only identify concerns but to also identify and propose solutions for review and consideration by the litigation team.

EXPERIENCE:

The ideal candidate is a seasoned commercial litigation paralegal with at least five (5) years of litigation experience, preferably handling complex commercial litigation matters. Candidates should be comfortable working independently, managing multiple priorities, and supporting attorneys through all phases of litigation.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

A paralegal certificate or formal paralegal education is preferred but not required. Equivalent experience and a demonstrated history of success in commercial litigation will be strongly considered. Interested candidates email resume to kturner@klmstaffing.com
