POSITION: Insurance Defense Attorney

We represent insurance carriers and policyholders in a wide range of civil litigation matters, with a focus on no-fault, negligence, and bodily injury cases. POSITION OVERVIEW
We are looking for a motivated attorney to handle insurance defense litigation from intake through resolution. The ideal candidate will manage a diverse caseload, appear in court, conduct discovery, negotiate settlements, and go to trial when necessary. This role offers the opportunity to work independently while collaborating with seasoned legal professionals in a supportive, mentorship-driven environment.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Represent insurance carriers and insureds in civil litigation matters, including no-fault, negligence, bodily injury, and property damage cases
- Manage all phases of litigation from case intake through resolution, including settlement and trial
- Draft and file pleadings, motions, briefs, and other legal documents
- Conduct legal research and analyze complex factual and legal issues
- Handle discovery processes: draft and respond to interrogatories, requests for production, notices of deposition, and administer depositions
- Conduct and summarize depositions of clients, witnesses, and experts
- Appear in court for hearings, conferences, trials, and other proceedings as necessary
- Negotiate settlements and resolve claims efficiently
- Provide timely, clear communication to clients, courts, opposing counsel, and co-counsel
- Maintain accurate and detailed case files and billing records
- Collaborate with paralegals, litigation associates, and administrative staff
- Stay current on changes in insurance law and Michigan civil litigation procedures
QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an ABA-accredited law school
- Admitted to practice law in Michigan and in good standing with the State Bar of Michigan
- Minimum 2–5 years of litigation experience (insurance defense experience preferred but not required)
- Strong deposition and courtroom experience
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Persuasive writing skills with the ability to draft clear, compelling legal documents
- Proficiency with legal research tools (Westlaw, LexisNexis)
- Familiarity with billing software and legal case management systems
- Ability to manage a heavy caseload independently while meeting competing deadlines
- High level of integrity and ability to handle confidential and privileged information
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Effective at building and maintaining client and coworker relationships
Preferred:
- Prior insurance defense or civil litigation experience
- Experience with no-fault and negligence litigation
- Familiarity with Michigan court procedures (both state and federal)
- Bilingual ability (English/Spanish)
