Commercial Litigation Attorney (2–8 Years Experience)

Practice Area: Business/Commercial Litigation
Compensation: Competitive (Base + Bonus), commensurate with experience

Position Overview
We are seeking a skilled Commercial Litigation Attorney to join our growing business litigation team. The ideal candidate will have solid experience handling a wide range of commercial disputes and will be eager to develop their practice while working on meaningful, high-impact cases for sophisticated business clients.

This role offers the opportunity to take on significant responsibility early, work closely with experienced partners, and build a robust litigation practice within a respected firm.

Key Responsibilities
Handle all phases of commercial litigation, including:
Breach of contract, business torts, non-compete/trade secret disputes
Partnership/LLC/shareholder disputes
Debtor-creditor issues, collections, and enforcement matters
Insurance coverage disputes and bad faith claims (exposure/opportunity)
Real estate and construction-related litigation
Conduct legal research, draft pleadings, motions, briefs, and memoranda
Manage discovery: interrogatories, requests for production, admissions, and discovery conferences
Depose and defend depositions of parties, fact witnesses, and expert witnesses
Advocate at hearings, status conferences, mediations, and (as appropriate) bench/trial proceedings
Counsel clients on litigation strategy, risk assessment, settlement options, and cost-benefit analysis
Collaborate with transactional colleagues on risk mitigation and dispute prevention
Maintain meticulous file management, billing records, and matter timelines

Qualifications
Required:

J.D. from an accredited law school and active admission to the State Bar of Michigan (or eligible for admission)
2–8 years of litigation experience, preferably in a law firm setting
Demonstrated experience handling commercial/business litigation matters
Strong writing and analytical skills; ability to craft clear, persuasive legal arguments
Excellent client interpersonal skills and professional judgment
Ability to manage multiple matters simultaneously with attention to detail
Proficiency with legal research tools (Westlaw/Lexis) and modern litigation support software

Highly Preferred:

Prior experience in a mid-to-large size firm or reputable boutique litigation practice
Exposure to federal and state court litigation in Michigan (especially Eastern District and state trial courts)
Experience with arbitration, mediation, and ADR processes
Business transactions background or exposure (helpful for understanding underlying commercial relationships)
