Job Description

Job Title: Legal Assistant – Federal Court Practice

A respected Metro Detroit law firm, seeks an experienced Legal Assistant to support attorneys handling federal litigation and appellate matters. The ideal candidate has hands-on experience managing filings in U.S. District and Circuit Courts, excellent formatting and proofreading skills, and a strong command of federal procedural requirements.

Responsibilities
Prepare and format pleadings, motions, and briefs for filing in federal court.
File documents electronically through CM/ECF in District and Circuit Courts.
Assist with federal appeals processes, including compiling appellate records and exhibits.
Maintain and index case files, ensuring accuracy and organization.
Manage attorney calendars, deadlines, and hearing schedules.
Draft correspondence, prepare tables of contents and authorities, and perform basic cite-checking.
Communicate with court clerks and co-counsel to ensure compliance with filing rules.

Qualifications
Minimum 3 years of federal court legal assistant or paralegal experience.
Proficiency with CM/ECF filing systems and Microsoft Office.
Strong organizational and formatting skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
Ability to work independently and as part of a busy litigation team.
