Medical Malpractice Defense Paralegal
Location: Metro Detroit Area - Hybrid after training (3 days in office / 2 remote)
Join a well-established defense firm representing physicians, hospitals, and healthcare systems in complex medical malpractice litigation. Work closely with a lead trial attorney who values a proactive paralegal and relies heavily on strong case management support.
Key Responsibilities
Manage defense litigation files from intake through trial, including scheduling, deadlines, and court filings.
Draft and format pleadings, discovery responses, subpoenas, motions, and correspondence.
Coordinate and summarize medical records; prepare medical chronologies and identify key liability and causation issues.
Assist with written and electronic discovery, including document production and deposition preparation.
Prepare exhibits, witness lists, and trial notebooks; provide trial support as needed.
Communicate with clients, experts, insurers, opposing counsel, and court personnel in a professional manner.
Handle general administrative support for assigned attorneys, including expense reports and calendar management.
Qualifications
2+ years of litigation paralegal experience; medical malpractice or insurance defense strongly preferred.
Solid understanding of Michigan court rules, filing procedures, and litigation deadlines.
Proven experience reviewing, organizing, and summarizing medical records.
Strong writing, proofreading, and organizational skills with high attention to detail.
Professional communication skills and comfort working primarily in-office with some hybrid flexibility after ramp-up.
Work Environment & Schedule
Primarily in-office to support a trial-focused defense practice, with hybrid eligibility (up to 2 days remote) after training and performance demonstration.
