Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Specialist

Location: Clearwater, FL 33765
Department: Manufacturing
Reports To: VP of Manufacturing
Employment Type: Exempt

Job Summary:

The EHS Specialist is responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the organization’s health, safety, and environmental programs. This role ensures compliance with OSHA, federal, and state regulations while fostering a strong safety culture within the company. The EHS Specialist will provide training, oversee safety protocols, investigate incidents, and drive continuous improvement in workplace safety.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Promote and maintain a positive safety culture through leadership and proactive engagement with employees.

  • Develop, implement, and enforce safety policies and procedures in compliance with OSHA and other applicable regulations.

  • Act as the first point of contact during emergencies, providing guidance and support.

  • Collaborate with department heads to develop safety plans and control methods, ensuring adherence to safety regulations.

  • Assist in developing task-specific activity hazard analyses for various projects and document compliance efforts.

  • Organize and lead Safety Committee meetings to address safety concerns and improvements.

  • Conduct safety inspections, jobsite walkthroughs, and risk assessments to identify and mitigate hazards.

  • Provide employee training on safety protocols, safe equipment operation, and regulatory compliance.

  • Investigate workplace accidents, conduct root cause analyses, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

  • Maintain safety metrics and generate reports as required by OSHA and corporate policies.

  • Evaluate and address risk assessments and safety concerns related to work instructions, processes, and tooling.

  • Stay current with industry regulations and maintain relevant safety certifications.

  • Work with claim representatives to provide necessary information for workers’ compensation and other safety-related claims.

  • Conduct and document regular safety meetings, new hire orientations, and specialized training sessions.

  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Qualifications:

  • In-depth knowledge of OSHA guidelines and other relevant safety regulations.

  • Familiarity with tools, machines, and equipment used in a manufacturing environment.

  • Strong attention to detail and analytical skills.

  • Effective problem-solving and critical-thinking abilities.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to train and educate employees on safety standards and expectations.

  • Strong computer literacy and ability to work with various software tools.

  • Ability to collaborate with diverse teams and foster a culture of safety.

Education and Experience:

  • Associate degree required; Bachelor's degree in Safety, Environmental Science, or Risk Management preferred.

  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience as a Safety Coordinator or similar role.

  • At least 2 years’ experience in a manufacturing environment.

  • OSHA 30 Certification is required.
