Summary: We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Physical Therapy Assistant (PTA) to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will support Physical Therapists in delivering effective, patient-centered care and rehabilitation services. You will play a crucial role in assisting with therapeutic interventions, patient education, and administrative tasks to enhance patient outcomes and promote overall physical well-being.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Patient Care and Clinical Support:
- Assist Physical Therapists in implementing treatment plans designed to improve patient mobility, strength, and functional capabilities.
- Prepare patients for therapy sessions, ensuring they are comfortable and informed about the procedures.
- Administer therapeutic exercises, manual therapy techniques, and modalities such as ultrasound, electrical stimulation, and heat/cold therapy under the supervision of a Physical Therapist.
- Provide support during therapeutic activities, ensuring patients perform exercises safely and correctly.
- Monitor patient responses to treatments and report any significant changes or concerns to the supervising Physical Therapist.
- Document patient progress, treatments provided, and any relevant observations in the patients medical record.
Patient Education and Support:
- Educate patients and their families about exercises, therapeutic procedures, and home exercise programs as directed by the Physical Therapist.
- Demonstrate the use of assistive devices, such as walkers and canes, and provide guidance on proper body mechanics and posture.
- Encourage and motivate patients to adhere to their treatment plans and participate actively in their rehabilitation.
Equipment and Facility Management:
- Prepare treatment areas by setting up equipment and ensuring cleanliness and safety.
- Maintain therapy equipment, including cleaning, disinfecting, and conducting routine checks to ensure proper functioning.
- Assist in ordering and organizing therapy supplies, keeping track of inventory levels, and reporting any shortages to the Physical Therapist or clinic manager.
Administrative and Coordination Support:
- Schedule patient appointments, update records, and handle administrative tasks related to patient care.
- Communicate with patients to remind them of appointments and provide necessary information about therapy sessions.
- Assist with processing insurance documentation, billing, and other paperwork as needed.
Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with Physical Therapists, healthcare providers, and administrative staff to coordinate patient care and ensure seamless clinic operations.
- Participate in team meetings and case discussions, contributing to patient care planning and quality improvement initiatives.
- Communicate effectively with patients, families, and caregivers to address concerns and provide updates on treatment progress.
Professional Development and Continuous Improvement:
- Stay current with advancements in physical therapy techniques, modalities, and best practices through ongoing education and training.
- Participate in professional development opportunities, such as workshops, seminars, and conferences.
- Contribute to quality improvement projects and share insights with colleagues to enhance patient care and clinic operations.
General Responsibilities:
- Adhere to ethical and professional standards in all interactions and treatment activities.
- Perform additional duties related to the Physical Therapy Assistant role as directed by supervisors.
- Support clinic operations by assisting with administrative tasks and front-desk duties as needed.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree from an accredited Physical Therapy Assistant program.
- State licensure as a Physical Therapy Assistant.
- Proven experience in a clinical setting, preferably with diverse patient populations.
- Proficient in assisting with diagnostic and therapeutic techniques used in physical therapy.
- Familiarity with electronic health record (EHR) systems.
- Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Commitment to continuous learning and professional development.
