Who We Are

Precision Services Inc. is a busy pump repair and fabrication shop supporting industrial and municipal clients. The Manual Machinist is responsible for setting up and operating manual machining equipment to manufacture, repair, and restore precision components used in pumps, valves, and other industrial equipment.

What You’ll Do 

  • Set up and operate manual lathes, mills, drill presses, boring equipment, grinders, and other machine shop equipment.
  • Machine new and existing components to required dimensions, tolerances, and specifications.
  • Repair, modify, rebuild, and restore components associated with industrial pumps, valves, rotating equipment, and related machinery.
  • Inspect worn or damaged components and determine appropriate machining and repair methods.
  • Perform turning, facing, boring, drilling, threading, tapping, milling, and other manual machining operations.
  • Work from blueprints, mechanical drawings, sketches, specifications, work orders, and sample components.
  • Accurately measure parts using micrometers, calipers, dial indicators, bore gauges, depth gauges, and other precision measuring instruments.
  • Verify dimensions and tolerances throughout the machining process and make necessary adjustments.
  • Determine appropriate speeds, feeds, tooling, workholding methods, and machining sequences.
  • Perform precision fits for shafts, sleeves, bushings, bearings, seals, and other pump and valve components.
  • Identify component wear, dimensional issues, and other conditions that may affect equipment performance.
  • Coordinate with mechanics, technicians, welders, supervisors, and other team members regarding repair requirements.
  • Inspect completed work to ensure components meet quality standards and job specifications.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of measurements, machining work, repairs, and completed jobs as required.
  • Maintain machines, tooling, measuring equipment, and work areas in clean and serviceable condition.
  • Perform routine equipment inspections and report maintenance or repair needs.
  • Follow established quality control procedures and immediately communicate concerns regarding materials, specifications, or completed work.
  • Follow all company safety procedures and properly use required personal protective equipment.
  • Maintain an organized, clean, and safe machine shop environment.
  • Assist with equipment disassembly, inspection, assembly, and testing when needed.
  • Support other shop and operational activities based on workload and business needs.
  • Perform other duties as assigned. 

What You’ll Need

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Previous experience as a Manual Machinist, Tool and Die Machinist, Industrial Machinist, or similar position preferred.
  • Experience operating manual lathes and mills required.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, mechanical drawings, specifications, and machining instructions.
  • Strong knowledge of machining principles, tooling, speeds, feeds, fits, and tolerances.
  • Ability to use precision measuring instruments accurately.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to perform mathematical calculations associated with machining and dimensional measurements.
  • Ability to independently set up equipment and determine appropriate machining processes.
  • Ability to maintain accuracy while working with close tolerances.
  • Ability to safely operate machine shop equipment and hand and power tools.
