Job Description

About the Position
The Valve Technician is responsible for the assembly, disassembly, inspection, repair, testing, and documentation of safety and safety relief valves in accordance with company standards, and industry regulations. This role requires strong mechanical aptitude, precision measurement skills, and the ability to work both independently and as part of a team in shop and field environments.

 
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Properly identify and safely use basic hand tools and air tools.
  • Teardown, clean, inspect, and reassemble safety and safety relief valves.
  • Accurately request, locate, and utilize “critical dimensions” and spring charts for all manufacturers’ valve types.
  • Select and use precision measuring devices to inspect internal valve components.
  • Operate sand blasters, lapping machines, heating and cutting torches, and valve test stands.
  • Properly lap and polish valve seating surfaces to ensure compliance with specifications.
  • Perform duties as a shop or field “helper” as needed to support operations.
  • Complete valve travelers and accurately enter data into the Valve keep database.
  • Complete parts requisitions for new valves and repair components.
  • Utilize proper safety valve terminology and technical language in documentation and communication.
  • Safely operate a forklift as required.
  • Maintain a professional and cooperative working relationship with coworkers.
  • Work overtime as required to meet operational demands.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 
Qualifications
Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Technical or mechanical training preferred.
  • Previous experience working with safety or relief valves strongly preferred.
  • Experience in an industrial, manufacturing, or mechanical shop environment preferred.
  • A Valid Driver's License or State Issued ID is required.


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical documents, charts, and specifications.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring instruments (calipers, micrometers, gauges, etc.).
  • Ability to operate shop machinery and testing equipment.
  • Basic computer skills for database entry and documentation.
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.


Physical Requirements

  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds regularly.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods.
  • Frequent bending, stooping, kneeling, and reaching.
  • Ability to work in shop and field environments, including exposure to noise, dust, and industrial conditions.

 
Work Environment
This position operates in a shop and field environment and may be exposed to mechanical hazards, industrial equipment, and varying weather conditions when working in the field. Proper PPE is required at all times.
