Accounting Systems That Support Real Estate Lending

MM Lending is seeking a Staff Accountant who enjoys precision, structured financial work, and maintaining accurate financial records in a transaction-driven environment.

This role is ideal for an accounting professional who takes pride in detail-oriented work, reconciliation accuracy, and maintaining strong accounting systems. You will work closely with the President and Corporate Controller to ensure daily accounting operations, loan accounting activity, and financial records remain accurate and organized.

This position is primarily on-site, with occasional flexibility for remote work. No travel required.

What You Will Do

This role supports the core accounting infrastructure of the company, ensuring loan transactions, financial records, and reconciliations are accurate and properly documented.

Daily Accounting Operations

  • Post and reconcile daily cash activity across loan and operating accounts
  • Record and balance daily loan activity from the Mortgage Automator loan system into the general ledger
  • Review loan transactions to ensure proper accounting treatment
  • Record loan-related activity including:
    • Loan fundings
    • Borrower interest payments
    • Monthly interest accruals
    • Loan payoffs
    • ACH transactions
    • NSF activity
    • Construction draws
    • Borrower billing adjustments
  • Prepare and record general ledger journal entries
  • Manage accounts payable processing, including invoice review and payment tracking
  • Maintain accounts receivable tracking and posting
  • Support borrower billing and accounting transactions

Reconciliations

  • Perform monthly bank reconciliations across multiple operating and loan accounts
  • Reconcile credit card activity
  • Investigate and resolve reconciliation discrepancies
  • Maintain organized documentation supporting reconciled balances

Month-End Close & Financial Reporting

  • Work with the Corporate Controller to execute the monthly close process
  • Prepare and post-closing journal entries
  • Maintain balance sheet schedules and supporting documentation
  • Assist with preparation of monthly financial statements
  • Support financial analysis and reporting

Reporting & Compliance

  • Prepare internal financial and compliance reports
  • Support loan activity reporting and operational reporting
  • Maintain well-organized accounting documentation and records
  • Assist with financial data reviews and reporting requests

Systems Used

You will regularly work with the following tools:

  • QuickBooks Online – accounting system
  • Mortgage Automator – loan management system
  • Microsoft Excel and Word

Additional experience that is helpful but not required:

  • Power BI
  • Power Automate
  • HubSpot CRM

Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of accounting experience
  • Strong experience with general ledger accounting
  • Experience preparing journal entries and reconciliations
  • Experience supporting month-end close
  • Comfortable working in a transaction-based accounting environment
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
  • Strong Microsoft Excel proficienc
  • Experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting systems
  • Solid understanding of reconciliation processes and GL accounting
