Job Description
Founding Senior Security Engineer, AI Agents
📍 San Francisco Bay Area (on-site) | 💰 Base salary: $200,000 to $330,000 + equity and full benefits
About the Opportunity
Our client is an early-stage, venture-backed AI company building autonomous agents for enterprise customers. Their agents work with sensitive customer data and take real actions inside business-critical software, so security is central to how the product earns trust and wins larger accounts.
This is a senior, hands-on individual contributor role reporting to executive engineering leadership. Youll shape the security architecture and write much of the code that enforces it.
What Youll Do
- Build and maintain the threat model and security roadmap for the agent platform
- Design and implement controls that limit what agents can do, including permissions, approvals, and sandboxed execution
- Develop secure identity, credential, and data handling across services and tenants
- Harden application packaging, updates, and release processes
- Write security-focused tests, investigate vulnerabilities, and support incident response
- Partner with product engineers and help customers through security reviews
What You Bring
- Strong software engineering background with production code you personally designed and shipped
- Solid CS fundamentals: algorithms, concurrency, operating systems, and systems design
- Hands-on security engineering: authorization, secrets management, isolation, or network security
- Comfort debugging across backend services and operating system layers
- Awareness of AI-specific risks like prompt injection and untrusted model output
- Ability to prioritize in an ambiguous, fast-moving environment
Nice to Have
- Python, TypeScript, or Rust
- Desktop application or endpoint security experience
- Experience with AI agents or developer tooling
- Enterprise identity, on-prem, or restricted-network deployments
Why This Role
- Tackle new, high-impact problems in AI agent security
- Set the security standards for a growing engineering team
- Small team with direct access to leadership
