Job Description

Business Continuity Program Builder (Resiliency)

Contract | Hybrid — Atlanta, GA

The Opportunity

This is not a role for someone who maintains plans or supports an existing program. We are looking for a builder.

Our client is standing up a Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery program nearly from scratch — and they need someone who has done this before. You will walk into a low-maturity environment and own the 9–12 month effort to design, build, and operationalize an enterprise-grade BC/DR program. You will work directly with senior leadership and have the autonomy to drive the work forward without being micromanaged.

If you've spent your career maintaining templates and updating contact lists, this is not the right fit. If you've built something from the ground up and can prove it — we want to talk.

What You'll Own

  • Design and build the enterprise Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery program from low maturity — frameworks, governance, policies, standards, and roadmap
  • Lead Business Impact Analyses (BIAs) end-to-end across the organization, not just participate in them
  • Define RTO/RPO strategy in partnership with business and IT stakeholders — and make sure it's actually achievable
  • Develop a maturity model and program roadmap with measurable milestones
  • Build and facilitate tabletop exercises, functional tests, and full-scale DR tests; own findings and drive remediation
  • Identify gaps in resilience capabilities and create a prioritized plan to close them
  • Maintain accurate, audit-ready documentation including plans, contact trees, and supporting materials
  • Serve as the primary BC/DR resource for executive leadership — you should be comfortable in the room and capable of driving the conversation
  • Support incident response and crisis management activities as needed

What You Bring

Experience:

  • 5+ years in Business Continuity, Disaster Recovery, or enterprise resilience — with direct, demonstrable program ownership
  • Proven experience building or significantly maturing a BC/DR program from a low state of readiness (not just inheriting a mature one)
  • Led BIAs from start to finish — designed the approach, drove the interviews, synthesized findings, and presented to leadership
  • Set RTO/RPO targets in collaboration with business and IT, and aligned them with actual recovery capabilities
  • Built frameworks, governance structures, and multi-phase roadmaps
  • Operated independently in ambiguous environments — you don't need to be told what to do next
  • Strong executive presence — this role has regular C-suite visibility and requires someone who commands the room

Knowledge:

  • Working knowledge of ISO 22301, NIST CSF, FFIEC, COBIT, or comparable frameworks
  • Familiarity with both business continuity and IT disaster recovery — you can bridge the two

Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in Information Systems, Business Administration, Risk Management, Emergency Management, or equivalent experience

Certifications:

  • CBCP (Certified Business Continuity Professional) preferred

This Role Is Right for You If...

  • You are energized by building, not maintaining
  • You are motivated by ownership and impact, not just a paycheck
  • You can walk into an unstructured environment and create order
  • You have the confidence and communication skills to influence senior leadership
  • You've done this before and can speak to it specifically
