Job Description

Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

The Opportunity

If you're an Azure-focused infrastructure engineer who loves the challenge of migrating on-premises workloads to the cloud, building governance frameworks that actually work, and operating reliable production environments, this role is a strong fit.

You'll be joining an established infrastructure team where your primary focus is accelerating a meaningful Azure migration initiative. That means assessing on-prem workloads, designing the right migration patterns, executing migration waves, and transitioning services into steady-state support. Along the way, you'll also own core Azure platform operations, support hybrid connectivity, and contribute to data platform efforts tied to a Microsoft Fabric modernization program.

This is a hands-on engineering role with real ownership and visible impact. The data center footprint is shrinking and you'll be one of the key people making that happen.

What You'll Be Doing

Azure Platform Engineering and Governance

  • Build and maintain Azure foundations including subscriptions, resource groups, RBAC, policies, tagging standards, and environment separation
  • Implement cost controls including budgets, alerts, and usage reporting to support chargeback and showback practices
  • Ensure all Azure configurations align to security standards and operational governance requirements

Cloud Infrastructure Operations

  • Operate and maintain Azure compute, storage, networking, and core platform tooling
  • Manage monitoring, alerting, and troubleshooting to support availability and performance
  • Maintain and test backup and recovery capabilities to support business continuity and disaster recovery readiness

Server Migration and Modernization

  • Assess on-premises workloads and support migration planning using rehost, refactor, replace, and retire patterns
  • Execute migration waves, validate post-migration performance, and transition services into steady-state support
  • Identify legacy systems suitable for retirement as part of the broader data center exit strategy

Hybrid Connectivity and Security

  • Support connectivity between Azure, corporate offices, and remote sites via VPN, DNS, routing, and secure remote access
  • Partner with Network and Security teams to ensure hybrid access models are secure and supportable
  • Implement configuration baselines, patching posture, least privilege access, logging, and telemetry practices

Automation, Documentation, and Project Ownership

  • Develop and maintain repeatable deployment standards including templates, scripts, and runbooks
  • Keep infrastructure documentation current including environment diagrams, service dependencies, and operational procedures
  • Manage owned Azure projects and deliver them on approved design, timeline, and budget parameters
  • Support Microsoft Fabric and data platform infrastructure needs including identity, access, and operational monitoring

What We're Looking For

Required

  • 5+ years in infrastructure engineering with at least 3 years of hands-on Azure production experience
  • Strong depth in Azure infrastructure services including compute, storage, and networking
  • Proven experience migrating workloads from on-premises environments to Azure
  • Solid understanding of hybrid connectivity including VPN, ExpressRoute, DNS, and routing
  • Windows Server and/or Linux administration including troubleshooting and performance tuning
  • Experience working within structured change control processes, documentation standards, and security practices
  • Familiarity with least privilege access, RBAC, and secure remote access methods
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to translate technical recommendations into business context
  • Self-directed, organized, and comfortable working with minimal supervision
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, or a related field -- or equivalent practical experience and certifications

Preferred

  • Experience with Microsoft Fabric or related Azure data services
  • Exposure to cloud cost optimization and FinOps practices
  • Azure certifications such as AZ-104 or AZ-305

A Few Other Things to Know

  • This role does include on-call participation for cloud infrastructure alerts and high-impact incidents
  • Occasional after-hours support for scheduled maintenance is expected
  • Light physical requirements apply if visiting a job site -- up to 60 lbs lifting, PPE use when required
